Terry and ferdinand are way off form, johnson is very poor positionally when defending. A decent attack will tie the defense up in knots.

You're clinging to the negatives in a 'set in stone' manner, when in reality, Ferdinand and Terry could easily be solid enough. And Johnson wont face quality attacking opposition until the quarters at the earliest.

Exactly. The group stage doesnt offer any real attacking quality for England to deal with.

2nd round is likely to pair england against Ghana or Serbia - again, not much to fear.

Could face Argentina in the quarters, but with Maradona at the helm, anything's possible there.

As i said, semi finals for england isnt really being radically optimistic.

well there's clint dempsey and donovan. neither are world class but they're fairly decent.

Yeah but Johnson isnt exactly '****' He's more useful going forward than being defensively solid as a rock - but he's easily good enough to hold his own against the likes of Dempsey and Donovan.

The point remains that there's not enough in the group to 'take england's defence apart'.

I agree, I was almost relieved we didn't qualify so I wouldn't have to hear our "fans" booing the opposition and singing either the national anthem or world war 2 songs during the match. Makes me cringe everytime.

Even so, I'll still have the same hopes to be dashed when it all starts for real.
