Whenever I saw him he looked good. The thing is though that performing well in a relegation battle is very different to what is required at international level when, like it or not, England will often be viewed as favourites and will almost always have to win games.
Yes, I can see that. The same argument could be said for a keeper playing in a relegation threatened team. He might well look good for them making save after save, his team constantly on the end of a potential thrashing, but it's very different playing in goal for England where concentration is far more important, and he might only have two or three important moments in the entire game. Different skill all together. Sadly pretty much all our keepers (Hart aside, just) did come from from relegation threatened sides
Capello has to tell the players one by one before any official announcement and that takes time. I'd say it's more the media's fault for chomping at the bit, along with the new information outlets that haven't been around in previous years (Twitter etc). Not sure how else Capello is supposed to have done things.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

whilst agree the cuntish media had played it's part - capello also has.
As outlined - He had the players there, he admitted he had already picked 20, he could have dones this together as a group and pulled them in indvidually, kept them together and then done the announcement

Fair to say, if the rumours are true, he's gone for experience over form (King/Dawson possible aside, but injury was a factor there), massively contradicting himself in the process. SWP over Johnson who kept him warming the bench all the 2nd half of the season = Joke

I guess he could have held a meeting and told everyone at once, or even in one to ones. I don't think it would have been much better though. The real problem I suspect is that the players are now much more likely to leak information than in the past and have more ways of doing so quickly.

Well I don't think it would be particularly fair to inform the players as a group so it had to be one to ones. And as you say, the media are probably getting wind of things via the players themselves in one way or another.

if he had them all toegther it would have been dealt with quicker, easier, and then the announcement made with probably relativiley small leaks - and what leaks did get through, would have disappeared once the official announcement was made shortly after - now we seem to have a period of 3 hours or so from the first player being told he is out to the squad actually being announced.

I guess it depends on whether you view him as factoring in England form. From what I heard SWP did well in his time on the pitch in the recent friendly. I'm not sure whether Capello meant his comment about form to be taken quite as it has - my feeling is that he meant that the squad wasn't a closed shop. In that interpretation his efforts to get Carragher to play and the inclusion of Dawson, Johnson, King and Parker in the 30 seem to be part of a consistent philosophy.
If he sees players in training and they don't fit the way he wants to play then I would say that would be an important determining factor in who makes the squad.

Perhaps Fabio should have made a pre-recorded message with just the person's name changed, then all get phoned the message at exactly the same time - along with a simultaneous press release of the final 23.
