She's apparently an England supporter (who loves Wayne Rooney) and she's from SA, where this competition is being played. There's no purpose of Mascots apart from making the day of someone, normally a young 'un.

The world cup is already tedious as it is (with all the nationalist bollocks), so it's not bad seeing a kid living in Soweto having her dream fulfilled, rather than a spoilt little brat from a rich English family.

That's a fair point but not every English child is rich or spoilt. I find it strange that she would support England but that's her shout.

Hopefully some SA supporting English kids can be their mascot.

You wouldn't have a Chelsea fan being the mascot of Liverpool would you?

I do see the nicety behind using local children as mascots for each team though when it comes to the World Cup.

Obviously not, I haven't disputed that but show me one expat living there who isn't rich or very well off.

Where's the relation - she's allegedly an England fan? Liverpool fans from anywhere across the world can be mascots, same here. It's a competition being held in SA, so it's perfectly normal that they are choosing one of theirs.

Why should SA pick our mascots? If we host the 2018 WC then they are getting a rotissery chicken.
