Barcelona close on David Villa & Fabregas

Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has revealed they are close to signing David Villa and remain hopeful of landing Cesc Fabregas.

Newly-crowned Primera Liga champions Barca are keen on signing Valencia ace Villa and Arsenal schemer Fabregas as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

A move for Villa has been mooted for some time with Valencia resigned to losing their star striker due to their financial problems.

Fabregas has been continually linked with a return to Barcelona with the midfielder admitting his desire to rejoin his former club at some point in the future.

Yuste admits the two deals are at different stages with Villa close to making the move to Camp Nou, but Arsenal are expected to fight hard to keep hold of Fabregas.

"Negotiations are progressing well especially in the case of Villa," Yuste told Catalonian radio station Ona FM.

"The situation with Cesc is different because even if you have the will of the player it is very important to talk to his club and, if you can, find an agreement.

"But what makes it easier is that both players want to come to Barca."

Fabregas revealed last week that he wants his future sorted before he goes to the World Cup with Barca hoping they can tempt Arsenal into a deal for the midfielder.

    Swap deal

It has been suggested Yaya Toure could be used as a makeweight in a deal to

take Fabregas to Camp Nou and the Ivorian's agent Dimitri Seluk admitted his client is not happy at his bit-part role under Pep Guardiola.

"Toure wants to play every game," said Seluk. "It is likely that Toure will not remain at Barcelona.

"He is happy there, it is a great club but he does not want to spend his time on the bench."

He added, however: "There is a one in a thousand chance that Toure will be involved in the move for Cesc with Arsenal."

Well seeing as we won't be competing against them next season, I hope they sign Villa and Fabregas. They'll have some ****ing team then
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

aye - two good things from this - one the barca team will be class....two, signing these two will hopefully divert their attention away from Mascher and Torres meaning one less club sniffing around.

Or...one less world class striker on the market, means more teams snoffing around Torres.
BTW, I love Barca, that team be ****ing awesome if they pull it off.

Thinking about how scary a team they are now, I can hardly imagine them with those two in the team as well

Also notice that they then basically only have Alves, Messi and Ibrahimovic as foreign players in the normal staring line-up They also have a few other foreigners but that is only as backup/rotation.

It has been ages since we have seen a top club with such a big concentration of it's own nationality!

Would not surprise me if they used Ibra as bait to land Torres.

Who will Fabregas replace? Their midfield is so complete right now.

Awesome potential team there. The current one will go down in history regardless but with these two? Team of the century!

Would like to see how they would fit Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas into the same team without losing any muscle in midfield.

Would be good to see Madrid go few more seasons without winning anything.

I think 'schemer' should be a recognised position in its own right along with keeper/sweeper, stopper and forward-lying defensive harasser.
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Cesc Fabregas is understood to have told Arsene Wenger he wants to leave Arsenal in order to rejoin Barcelona as president Joan Laporta hints at making a bid.

Writing in Spanish newspaper AS, Guillem Balague has revealed that Fabregas has flown in to London from Barcelona to discuss his future at Emirates Stadium with Wenger.

Fabregas recently revealed that he does want to play for former club Barca one day and is keen for his future to be resolved before representing Spain at the World Cup finals.

It now appears that the midfielder is ready to ask for permission to join the newly-crowned Primera Liga champions next season and a fee is likely to be in the region of £30-35million.
