So now Rangers are looking like they will have Arab ownership, Qatar/Dubai, small time deal really in comparison to lfc, but if they ever got into the Prem it would be a masterstroke, not that they will any time soon, a european league maybe ? with many clubs coming under new ownership who knows what might happen in the future.
SPL - Consortium closes on Rangers takeover
PA Sport - Wed, 09 Jun 18:51:00 2010
A consortium led by former Northampton Town chairman Andrew Ellis is closing in on a deal to buy a controlling interest in Rangers.
The RFC consortium released a statement to the stock exchange claiming that they are in "advanced negotiations" about a deal to take over the Glasgow club.
Reports have claimed that the buyout is being funded by Arab backers in Qatar and Dubai, with Ellis coordinating the deal alongside former Leeds United chairman Chris Akers.
The reports claimed that current major shareholder Sir David Murray would receive around £3 million for his 57 per cent share in the club, but that Rangers' debts would be effectively wiped out by the deal.
RFC's message stated that no firm timeline is in place to conclude negotiations with Murray, but should terms be agreed between the parties the consortium will be obliged by law to make an offer on the remaining share capital of the Glasgow club.
Although the move has been mooted for some time, the release made it clear that the process is far from complete.
The statement read: "RFC, which is controlled by Andrew Ellis, notes today's press reports regarding discussions between the company and Sir David Murray.
"The company confirms that it is in advanced negotiations with Sir David Murray to acquire a controlling interest in Rangers Football Club Plc, however no price has been agreed and no timing has been established for the conclusion of the talks."
