My Spain vs Honduras match report...

I went to the game last night & all I can say is Xabi Alonso was an absolute masterclass - head & shoulders better than Xavi or anyone else. I can't believe Busquets is in the team ahead of the likes of Fabregas - I honestly don't know what Busquets offers the team except being a 3rd centre half. Also Navas was crap - it's true, he can't perform when not in Seville! Mata looked pretty handy when he came on. Villa missed a few chances & scored 2, Torres still looked rusty but showed some good touches here & there. More importantly I know Cassilas is the captain but Pepe is miles better than him at the moment imo - I honestly believe the Swiss wouldn't have scored had Pepe been in goal.
(Obviously this last bit has nothing to do with last night's game as Cassilas was never really tested...)

Totally agree about Xabi. You obviously won't have heard, being at the game, but the commentator over here labelled Iniesta as Spain's 'passer-in-chief'. Now obviously Iniesta is a Rolls-Royce but I'd dispute this claim. Then the co-commentator said "Xavi might be a bit miffed about that", without a single mention for Alonso who was totally running the show.

Navas irritated the hell out of me, extremely frustrating. He does though keep the width and make the pitch bigger for Spain...they had more space than the congestion they faced against the Swiss, what with Silva coming inside all the time.

Xabi has no equal right now in World football. He is THE pass master.

One of the commentators did say a while after that that Alonso was also up there in the passing stakes and was controlling the passing in the game.

Xabi Alonso has made 175 passes in 2 games.

Fabregas was utter ****e when he came on so don't expect him to be starting again for them anytime soon

I couldn't believe how bad he was - the difference between him and Xavi was staggering. Fabregas was so ponderous in possession it was unreal, he took a ****ing age to decide what to do with it and more often than not he gave laboured, under-hit passes. He's a good player obviously but he doesn't half suffer by comparison with their better midfielders.

Fabregas is faster than Xavi but Xavi is twice the player he is because he is so much more intelligent than him. I think Fabregas is so settled in his role at Arsenal that its hard for him to adapt to another role

He's coming back from injury and I think he suffers from playing higher up the pitch in the Spanish team compared to where he does for Arsenal when he generally comes from deeper. I think he has time to mature into a player on a level with Xabi and Iniesta although perhaps now is the time for him to move to a club where he plays with more players on his level or above.

Technically Xabi he replaced you with Aquilani, but for the benefit of the gag I'll let it pass this time.....

...hang on.... "he replaced you with Aquilani" ???
