I'd disagree with that. I can't really remember the names of too many of 'em as harmless enjoyable movies don't tend to stick in the head but I watch 'em quite regular with the kids.Originally posted by Marsh View Postand when i say good i mean harmless enjoyable films. they dont really make them anymore.
Recentish ones would be tooth Fairy and the new Alice in Wonderland.
It's not that they're getting any worse it's just that as an adult they have far less impact. We've been exposed to and become able to understand far greater things.

you do realise though that the germans are saying the exact same thing . . . . . . . . a very good chance to beat a very beatable england teamOriginally posted by Dirk07 View Postwe have a chance to beat a very beatable germany and a weak argy team in defence, then a possible chance to beat my least favorite team in international football (portugal)
Sounds like a perfect route to the final where we can play the best team around
as a neutral, i would love to see spain do the double but i cant see past a brazil win again.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Missed opportunity... far from it, we have the opportunity to knock Germany out, then, we have an opportunity to get some pay back for one of english footballs lowest moments, and who would have thought the english football team would have the chance to face Maradonna in a world cup again.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostBut one of Uruguay or South Korea and USA or Ghana will be in the World Cup semi final.
Just goes to show how much easier on paper, England's route would've been, if they'd won their piss-poor group.
Talk about a missed opportunity.
Missed opportunity ? or perfect opportunity ?

Fate. Also, we have as much chance of beating them as they do us. imo. England play better against better sides, we are **** against the smaller teams usually.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostYeah good point mate. Because beating all of Germany, Argentina, Spain and Brazil is clearly the most realistic outcome.
Also, Spain, Brazil..who ever, none are playing so brilliantly that we should be anything but confident we'll beat them. imo.
It's on the day, and this run in was meant to be...tactically Capello will have Maradonna for breakfast, Germany are likely going to be missing some good players for Sunday too. It's on i tell ya.
The bigger the team...the more our players will perform imo, nothing will be taken for granted, and if Rooney actually wakes up too...well, that'll be like an extra player.
We'll see.Last edited by Vermilion; 26-06-10, 11:47 AM.

Which better sides do England do better against, my general recollection is that England tend to go out to the first good side they meet (Germany 1990, Argentina 98, Brazil 02, Portugal 06).Originally posted by Vermilion View PostFate. And fate is nonsense.

Results may have gone against england yes, but i do belive that they play better against better sides, against smaller sides they seem to freeze, many of the games england have gone out in were either through bad luck, mistakes, penalties, etc. not neccessarily because they were outplayed.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWhich better sides do England do better against, my general recollection is that England tend to go out to the first good side they meet (Germany 1990, Argentina 98, Brazil 02, Portugal 06).

Yep those results you point out are fair enough, but he did say they 'play' better
....and pretty much in all of those cases England played really well - especially v Germany & Argentina - and showed a much higher level than they had done prior against weaker opposition, in the respective tournaments. I think they'll raise their game again this time against better sides.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I like this theory about doing better against better opposition, as opposed to weak sides, and this whole 'The bigger the team...the more our players will perform' stuff.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostFate. How does that fare against the fact that england have been dumped out of the last few tournaments by Brazil and Portugal (twice) ?
EDIT
I see you're clinging to this 'i said PLAY better', as opposed to actually winning.
So how does the notion of playing better (but ultimately losing) fare against the notion that "it's on" ? Or when you say 'its on', did you just mean a run to the quarter finals?
