For a start we played John Terry. Who was absolutely nowhere for at least 3/4 goals conceded. Put in a player who doesn't let the occassion get to him and isn't hell bent on being Bobby Charlton and [erhaps we would have fared better. Terry IMHO should never play for England ever again. This is not the John Terry show. We had that in the tabloids, and frankly the John Terry show should be shown after the water shed.

I agree with Craig, we have this attitude of we should win cos we are English. It's arrogance that makes me sick. It's everywhere, the tabloids, the FA with their refusal to review coaching methods. All this "an English manager would be better than Capello". Surely, the fact that Capello has failed so badly with England is more of a reflection of England? He's won everywhere else he's been.
You're spot on mate, for some reason, english fans, media, footballing authorities have an over inflated view of their ability that bears no resemblence to reality.
Look at the chaos that happens when a 'weird foreigner' comes in with a zonal marking system. It gets derided and laughed at, because it's different. It's a whole attitude of "oh, we dont do it that way so it cant be any good".
That is the kind of mentality that takes england to their downfall.Last edited by Craig_H; 27-06-10, 05:43 PM.

Good point.Originally posted by Operation View PostMaybe there's something to be said for picking an England squad with relatively young players, and sticking with it, every match, until the next tournament.
We have too many senior players who are considered, by themselves and manager / media, as undroppable. Terry, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Cashley. We need a manager with balls, who will drop them when they don't perform. Shake them up a bit.

He ****ed up with the 3rd goal though. Shouldnt be getting beaten on his near post like that.Originally posted by liverpooltj View PostThe only player i felt really sorry for today was David James. He was let down massively by upson and mongo! He was outstanding today IMO and deserved a lot better. FFS he got better from the pompey defence last seson.

i'm not so sure about Muller, i think he's got a good "football brain" but lacks a lot in tehcnique, much like Kuyt, but unlike Kuyt Muller has a bit of pace about him.Originally posted by mostar View PostHim and Muller were outstanding pretty much entire WC. Very exciting players. Too bad (****y budget if any) we could not turn them into reds.
Ozil is a all round great player, quick, strong, skillful, can play in a number of postitions,.. probably gonna end up at Bayern though.Jürgen Klopp

Despite the four goals conceded, absolutely no fault on James imo. As I've said above, for my money Terry was a disgrace.
Really?

England players just cant seem to be able to do the basics like hold and give a simple pass, the German players just hold the ball better and can build up attacks. I think its just a product of the premiership with the demand to always get the ball forward as fast as possible.
England have the players but need the confidence to hold the ball and play short passes between themselves to build up attacks, more patience less speed. If you had an English version of say Alonso you'd see a immediate differance to the team. I hope they do try a back to basics approach as i'd personnally would like to see England do well and win these competitions.
