    Carles Puyol

    Where do you guys rate him among the all time great defenders. From 2002-2005 I thought he was a good player, but a bit overrated due to his Barca connections.

    But since then his record has been immense. Twice Champions League winner, La Liga multiple times, Euros, and now the World Cup. Never seems to get injured, can play right back and center back and seems to be one of the automatic starter for one of the best teams at both the club and international level. I dont think he has every let his team mates down in crucial games and boy he has played some important games.

      All time great defenders?I'm pretty sure he wouldn't make the top 10 or even 20.

        Fantastic defender nothing less. And he is a complete defender able to both play with the ball, throw some passes and defend on the ground and in the air.

        Couldn't think of many defenders today I would rather have in my team.

              Dirty, cheating fecker who's gets away with everything and reminds me of Carvalho. Great if he belongs to your team but he feckin irritates me. Defenders that roll around when breathed on deserve contempt when they spend 90 mins kickin **** of their opponent.

                Solid defender, pretty **** on the ball, but he'll die for Barca and Spain. Basically like Carra for us.

                  He's pretty good on the ball. We've seen it in the UCL final in '09 when he played RB.

                    He is what Carra should have gone on to become after 2005 IMO (minus the silly haircut - would look **** on Carra who prefers the Simple Jack look). Fantastic player Puyol.

                          I would have said that too. Although he is obviously not an Agger, Ferdinand, Pique level defender with the ball at his feet he is much more composed than most.

                            I kinda bought into the whole Puyol is dodgy/Barcelona have a **** defence thing for a while, but watching him the last couple of seasons and during the WC he seems like a pretty good defender to me. Seems to have it all really. I'd have him at LFC no problem.

                              A few seasons ago he seemed always to stand 5 yards, at least, behind the rest of the defense playing people on side all the time. Since he has been partnered with Pique he seems not to feel the need to do that any more.
