I really think that the team is too stupid to succeed.

The squad Capello picked is an interesting one. I think people are over critical of the quality there. It's not a world beating squad but the young players do have the potential to add many of the qualities lacking in the team at the world cup. I like the idea of using friendlies (and the U21s) as a way of getting a wide pool of players who understand the way that the team is trying to play.

Capello has a lot of work to do to get back the authority he used to have. I think weakening his stance on injured players and his handling of the final few selection choices left a lot to be desired. Hopefully though he will learn from that.
They are not bad players, but the motivation to succed doesn't seem to be there, some seem to think that signing a (too) big pay-deal with a premier league club is the highlight of their careers and all they have to do is show up agains european "no-marks" and the success will be there.

Germany are an interesting case, a large part of the squad isn't actually German, but they've seemed to got the grasp of the fighting spirit, and never-say-die attitude of the past German teams.

Should Cappello bring in some of the younger players like Wilshere and Wickham, coupled with some more experienced like Rooney and Gerrard and try to form a team spirit and understanting rather than pick players based on their current form and media exposure?

England fans and the English media need to accept the teams real position in the world. The reality is prior to the World Cup England were a top 8 team in the world consistently, they did well against the so called lesser teams and struggled as soon as the came up against any other top 10 team. Yes they can be dissappointed with what happened in the World Cup - they should have performed better, but they were never going to win it.

If England are to do well they need to have someone with the balls to address the big issues, the Gerrard/Lampard situation for one, and have the balls to pick good young players over experienced mediocre players. Capello was supposed to be the man to do this but he hasn't so far.

The players who have left are no great loss, all squad players rather than first choice, they should use this opportunity to give youngsters a chance.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

it is funny but it ain't the end of the world - the press need to lay off a bit and england and the fa need to come up with a clear directive to move the england squad forward with a view of competing in the world cup in four years.

They need to answer the first major problem – who out of the current set up is going to be around in 4 years.

Looking at - Anyone aged 28 or over – off top of my head probably only gerrard (maybe a bit of bias), Ashley cole? who you could say yeah, he will still have something to offer – The rest, I’d be looking to move on completely - fair enough brown/james/heskey etc have made that decision themselves but there are others that should be looked at (rio/barry/lampard), - then in certain circumstances keep some of the older ones in and around the squad to help develop the younger lads coming in. Say terry for a season or two to help bring on the young centre backs

Then – looking forward, the euro qualifiers and hopefully if they qualify euro finals whilst taken seriously should also be viewed upon as if you like “the carling cup compared to the fa cup” – a chance to get some competitive football and experience for the younger ones. After the euros, when world cup qualifying starts – only players who are in with a shout for the world cup finals should be played.

Next – Joe Hart – clearly the standout candidate to be number 1. He should be announced that he is number 1. And then stick with it. He should play as much as possible regardless of form (be it for England or first team football at wherever). If he has one or two dodgy games for England in friendlies or ****ty qualifiers for the euro’s...so what, don’t just drop him, stick with him. Then obviously have two other options be it foster or whoever, to cover him and get the odd games here and there.

Finally – it’s all very well calling up the likes of wilshere or whoever to the side....but you have to play them. I really think the capello and the fa missed a chance here with this next friendly – it was a great opportunity, if they got the pr way of doing it right so the press where onside, to basically just say – “right – we are ‘resting’ (not dropping ) everyone from the world cup squad. It doesn’t mean they are out and thats it....but we are giving them a break, things went wrong in the world cup, they still have time and a chance to make things right, but they need a break, and we need a chance to look at some of the youngsters and ones who just missed out on the world cup, and this is an ideal chance to do so”

simple really - no need for the typical dramas from the media/fa/players

Im going to the england game tommorow night. It should be an interesting atmosphere. To be honest i go because its the only chance (Being a southener) to see Stevie and the other liverpool boys play. Also its only about a 1 1/2 hrs away from were i live.

I will boo the **** out of the non LFC players for the first minuite. Then after than get right behind the team.

The youth in the team dosnt need the fury of a nation on there backs!

Ohh and i forgot my main point.

You think England is falling apart, Wales have had 18 Players retire from international football since Toshack took over a year and a half ago.

He must be one nasty ******* to work with!

I think the four years thing is a mistake. We should be looking to the Euros first and foremost and a more general future of having a squad with the right mentality beyond that.

Not sure about this at all. I think for a variety of reasons Cole, Ferdinand, Barry, Gerrard and Rooney have to kept on no matter what to give an experienced spine. Barry from that lot we should be looking to replace as soon as a half decent young defensive midfielder comes along.

There is also definitely a potential role in the squad for Lampard, however, the manager has to get over the feeling he has to pick him.

I'd leave Terry out. His form isn't that good (at least for England) and he encourages all the worst things about the brain dead overpaid over confidence that seems to infect the England squad. If he improved his form and the rest of the team had formed a good unit I'd consider bringing him back, as unlike many on here I do think he is an exceptional defensive talent when he gets his head right.

I think you need the experienced players to give a spine and to make it feel like a full international rather than a glorified U21 match.

That 'Frankie Fielding' is the kind of name Shaggy would use in one of his sneaky edits.

Akin to something like 'Gordon Golkieper'
