    Anelka banned for 18 games

Nicolas Anelka has been banned for 18 matches by the French Football Federation (FFF) over his conduct at this summer's World Cup.

Anelka was sent home from South Africa after a row with coach Raymond Domenech and, in protest, the France squad boycotted a training session.

Patrice Evra was captain of the team and has been banned for five matches for his part in the revolt.

Franck Ribery has been suspended for three and Jeremy Toulalan for one.

Eric Abidal made up the five players who were the focus of the FFF disciplinary hearing on Tuesday and he escaped punishment.

    More to follow.

Rather harsh i feel. Domenech seemed totally incompetent.

Ive got a soft spot for Anelka, i dont think he is as bad as people think now-a-days
    *Except Michael, who died.

But yeah it does seem harsh, and 18 games seems somewhat arbitrary. Why 18?!

i'd imagine if you checked the french fixture list then 18 games could well take them to the euros? meaning they could leave out if they look ok, or bring him back in as a 2nd chance if desperate? off toop of head like? how many internations a season? about 10?

Was disgussing this, i think its gonna be about 5 qulifiers and 5 friendlies. So 10.

Why they chose 18 games is beyond me though. Such a random figure

well because it's effectively a two year ban....and maybe they thought wait....if we ban for two years....and the euro's come round. we have just about qualified, but our strikers are ****e and anelkas still performing in the premiership, it gives a chance to get him back in for a friendly in two in time for the euros, and with a bit of pr spin, a herioc return.

I'll be extremely surprised if an announcement of retirement doesn't soon follow.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                  I was thinking the same.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Anelka has paid the price for standing up to that clown Domenech.

Anelka is actually quite a quiet well behaved lad these days

apparently anelka has come out and said he pissed himself laughing at the clowns when he was told of the ban

Loving his retort, says they're all clowns, he's laughing his head off and had no intention of playing for them again anyway
