Also the NOTW will have been sitting on this for a while. You have to wonder why they chose to splash it on their front page this Sunday when they were running another very high profile exclusive about alleged corruption in Pakistani cricket, a story which is much more serious and important to millions -perhaps tens or even hundreds of millions - worldwide.

It could be they feared a rival was about to run the story. I rather think though they decided to commit the editorial sin of competing with their own exclusive in order to distract from the gathering storm of stories about the criminal activity in their own newsroom.
You could argue the Pakistan match fixing was meant to be a private matter too

With regards to Rooney, he sounds like a bit of a caveman to be honest, dragging this girl around the hotel...nothing discreet about it. I wholly agree with what you're saying but I think in this particular instance, live by the sword...

I was under the impression that this was a Sunday Mirror exclusive story and the NOTW just copied it at the last moment

But that expression means you can't complain if you get attacked for doing the same things as you attack others for. To my knowledge Rooney has never criticised other people for shagging prostitutes or sleeping around.

Yes, he's damned stupid if he thought it would never come out but I think most people already assumed he's not the sharpest.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Really? I thought in this context the expression pointed to the fact that he wasn't being very discreet about it. Actually that makes me sound like I'm saying it's ok to cheat as long as you're discreet, which I'm not

Obviously, none of this would have happened if he was sober but it sounds like the alcohol really shrouded his judgement and hs concept of reality, e.g. not being bothered to be seen with her.

Oh OK, well, I still don't think it really applies but I get what you're saying.

I don't think it's great to cheat on your partner either. But that's the business of the people concerned.

Rooney isn't some kind of moralising MP telling us to stick to so-called traditional family values while secretly "romping" with prostitutes. Yes, it might well be devastating for his wife but it's his private life (and hers).

There is currently a scandal about criminal activity at the News of the World, involving a very senior official appointed by the coalition government. If you wanted to deflect attention, in the absence of photographs revealing Diana is alive and living with Elvis, Lord Lucan and Shergar, then a sex-scandal involving a top English Premiership footballer and a prostitute will do very nicely.

                  Precisely.

                  Oh I don't know.

This was a Sunday Mirror story though, not NOTW. They just jumped on the bandwagon.

Certainly kills the notion that said footballer had played for 'several of top clubs'

I'd love to see an experts opinion in all of this, not like one of the experts that the papers place in a little column to back up there story but a proper un-biased expert.

Because for me, I cant for the life of me see what brings them to do it. they live a next to perfect lifestyle, they are paid stupid amounts of money to do something they love, something that i'd do for free. But yet they still do increasingly stupid things.

I don't know the ratio of "non-famous" married men that visit prostitutes, im guessing its more than most people think and maybe the footballer ratio to this is similar. But when your in the public eye as much as they are, and when you know that the story is 95% sure of being leaked to the world, why do it?

I don't know if its a attention thing or not, maybe they feel like the world doesn't see them enough and getting there face plastered all over the papers will make them feel like people are talking about them, or maybe its an ego thing. the fact that in there mind they think they can have any woman they want because of who they are, so they throw there money at anything they can.

but it also brings the point why a prostitute, as brought up earlier in the thread it is pretty obvious if she will accept money for sex she will more than likely accept more money to talk about it. Part of me thinks Rooney knew what he was doing, and when Cristiano Ronaldo calls him a ****ing ****** you know he's doing wrong.

Maybe it was down to a normal marriage problems, maybe as Colleen was pregnant he wasn't getting the sexytime that he wanted which caused him to go astray but people suffer from this every day so it still begs the point why?

especially in the cases of Crouch and Cole, they are with two of the most attractive women in Britain (No offence to Coleen ) and they still choose to **** them over, it baffles me.
The times they are a changin'.

They do it, simply because they can. Those levels of money give them a feeling of untouchable invincibility and ultimate power.
