    Newcastle transfer list Steven Taylor

    - ****ing hell, thought he was one of their key men

Newcastle have placed defender Steven Taylor on the transfer list after failing to agree a new contract.

Taylor's current contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he would be able to leave the club on a free transfer then. As a result, the Magpies have reluctantly decided they may have to cash in on him now.

"We can confirm that Steven Taylor is on the transfer list," said a Newcastle spokesman.

The news will come as a huge blow to the club's fans, who have seen Taylor emerge from the ranks to become a genuine first-team player.

He is currently recovering from shoulder surgery after missing the second half of last season through injury.

Taylor is alleged to have suffered a broken jaw in a training ground incident involving striker Andy Carroll towards the end of the campaign, although the club drew a veil of secrecy over the matter and the issue was resolved internally.

Wednesday's news comes after a positive few days for the Magpies, who celebrated their return to the Barclays Premier League with a 6-0 demolition of Aston Villa on Sunday with Carroll scoring a hat-trick.

It may be that the club's stance is a bargaining ploy and that there could yet be movement, but the Mike Ashley regime has adopted a strict policy on wages which it is not prepared to break.

Taylor's situation has been monitored for some time by a series of potential suitors, including Liverpool and Chelsea, and while he has repeatedly stated he wants to play for his home-town club - he stayed last summer to play in the Championship when he might have moved - matters could yet be taken out of his hands

Think he's out injured atm, but last season, when fit he played alongside Colocinni in every game and was a big player for them.

      Something must have went down...

Yep, looks like there's a disagreement of some sort for sure then.

Club in the same country can only sign an out of contract player in the summer.

He'll be a good signing for most teams and a lot of clubs will go in for him.

Newcastle fans (at least the few I am unfortunate enough to know) really don't rate him at all that highly anymore, they seem to feel he just hasn't progressed in the last few seasons and have been saying all summer they'd be happy enough for him to leave if someone makes a good offer.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                        Mine angry and defrauded young?

Quite surprised at that. They know him better than anyone though so maybe he has lost his form.

Just assumed he'd be a key player for them this season, maybe not.

I think they and alot of others rated him too highly to begin with. Because he was doing well with the England under 21's they all thought naturally he was England next great hope. Truth is he was just loud and passionate but not so talented.

Everytime someone mentions him I only remember that incident when he went down in the penalty area after being shot in the chest by an imaginary sniper.
