Was just looking at Suso .....and thinking about the other premiership young guns, those that have a great future and will be a success and those who we thought were going to be great and never made it.
I found this article from 2003.........
David Beckham, Michael Owen, Thierry Henry - the Premiership is packed with household names.
A whole host of the world's best players ply their trade in England's top flight, costing their clubs millions in transfer fees and earning astronomical sums.
Not surprisingly with football starting to feel the pinch, clubs are keener than ever for home-grown talent to emerge through the ranks and establish themselves in the first team.
Several youngsters have emerged already this season and appear set for a bright future in the Premiership.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wayne Rooney - Everton
The sensation of the season so far, Rooney introduced himself with the spectacular goal that ended Arsenal's unbeaten run.
And a series of scintillating performances since suggest that Rooney will become a world star.
Talk is rife he will make his England debut in the friendly against Australia on 12 February - and most would argue he should be given the chance to showcase his skills in an England shirt.
He eye for goal, direct running and ability to look after himself despite his tender years all suggest some of the world's finest defenders are in for a nasty shock.
It is worth remembering that Rooney is just 17 and only signed a professional contract with Everton last week, but little seems beyond him.
Player profile: Wayne Rooney
Major Success
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
James Milner - Leeds United
James Milner introduced himself by breaking Rooney's record as the Premiership's youngest goalscorer when he notched in the Boxing Day win over Sunderland.
Milner is the second youngest Premiership player
The goal came a month after his first-team debut against West Ham, when he became the second youngest Premiership player at 16 years 309 days.
The Leeds-born midfielder has since added to his goal tally with a superb striker against Chelsea and figured on a regular basis for the rejuvenated Yorkshire club.
Leeds - as with Everton over Rooney - are keen to protect their player as much as possible by keeping him out of the public eye.
Player profile: James Milner
Major Success
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
James McEveley - Blackburn Rovers
James McEveley may not yet be a household name but the 17-year-old has been an important player for Rovers this season.
The defender made his debut against Walsall in the Worthington Cup in November and has made the left-back spot his own.
Liverpool-born McEveley has since played at Goodison Park, Villa Park and Old Trafford as he continues his development.
The Worthington Cup semi-final first-leg tie with Manchester United pitted McEveley against David Beckham, a challenge he relished.
He also made a brilliant goal-line clearance to deny Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in injury time.
He is naturally a central defender but has taken his chance at left-back and has shown an excellent temperament as well as loads of ability.
Player profile: James McEveley
playing at Barnsley, So done Ok.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stefan Moore - Aston Villa
Moore has all the skills to succeed
Aston Villa boss Graham Taylor breathed a huge sigh of relief when Stefan Moore signed a new deal before Christmas.
Moore hinted at what was to come when he scored a hat-trick against Everton in last season's FA Youth Cup final and his Premiership form this season has suggested immense promise.
Tall, quick and good on the ball, Moore has all the attributes necessary to succeed in the Premiership but is being treated with kid gloves by his manager.
Player profile: Stefan Moore
Major Fail. playing in non league.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Neil Mellor - Liverpool
Competition for places at Anfield is intense.
Trying to force your way into a forward line when Michael Owen, Emile Heskey, El Hadji Diouf and Milan Baros provide the competition is not easy.
And yet 20-year-old Mellor has played in the Worthington Cup, FA Cup and Premiership after finally making the first-team breakthrough in November.
The son of former Manchester City and Norwich winger Ian, Mellor opened his first-team account with a goal against Sheffield United in the Worthington Cup.
Player profile: Neil Mellor
Mellor scored 46 goals for the reserves and under-19 team last season and if he keeps playing regularly for the first-team the goals seem destined to keep coming.
Playing in championship and doing ok.
