    Van der Vaart

Whoever decided not to sign him up needs to be sacked...

In all seriousness though, looks a cracking talent I knew he was good but he's look unplayable for Spurs of recent.

Yeah, way to attack minded for us at present

Exactly pal, how dare we add a creative, attacking, goalscoring midfielder to our ranks

I've always talked van der Vaart up on here as a fantastic player and have been shot down most of the times I've said that. The majority on here seem to be of the belief that he's pretty ****.

Here's a post I made in some other thread when I found out that Spurs were getting him:

I think he'll surprise a few of you. This is the kind of signing which can take a fairly average team like spurs to the next level.

Although to get the best of him he should playcentrally I wouldn't be surprised if Harry tried to play him on the flanks. Then I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make an impact but that'd be due to mismanagement. Either way I expect him to do a very good job and perhaps transform spurs team like he did with Hamburg and Ajax.
Hamburg and Ajax when he played there were both atleast as good, probably better than this Spurs and he was the player that more than any one else they relied upon, the absolute heart beat of the team. I didn't see a whole lot of him at Ajax other than in the CL as I'm not really a fan of Eredivisie but I've heard he was even better than he was at Hamburg and an absolute inspiration.

So, the fact that Rafa's Spurs career has gotten off to a booming start is of no surprise to me.

The question for me was only ever going to be if he could adapt to the prem and at 8mil pounds it wasn't much of a gamble!

Yeah quite pissed off we didn't sign him.if the scum had money they would try to sign him next season but that won't happen .
If we had bought him,we'd play him behind torres?

I would have been happy to see him on the left. If roy doesn't want to play with any width then wouldn't have been perfect for us?? Playing left middle or whatever he calls it..

Hands up from me as someone who said he was ****e. But in my defense, in the about 10-15 times I saw him, he really was ****e. Fat and ****e in fact. Seems to be the buy of the season so far.

Wait til the temperature drops and it's pissing down with rain every week. Then we'll see how good he is.

VDV "good time charlie" player. When the going gets tough, he disappears

He is what he is. A good player but never been the mainstay of any top side whether it's Holland or Real Madrid. I don't think he'll be taking Tottenham to the next level. Sneijder yes, VDV no.

At least he is good when the temperature is normal, which is more than what Roy's signings are doing nowadays.

But you never know, even if we signed him, I dont think he can do much damage camped outside our 18 yard box and kicking them balls away

It has always been the worry with him - how does he handle it when things go against him. Not sure that the weather is the problem but more generally when the going gets tough VdV has tended to drift from prominence. It could be that Redknapp is the ideal manager or it could be that he has had the good fortune to play in games with a lot of space between DM and the defence allowing him to play with freedom. Robinho looked unstoppable when he first came to the PL.

For all that people say we should have spent the money I don't think he would suit our rigid system under Roy so it would not have helped us much. It's not so much the signings we made and didn't make but the tactics we seem wedded to that I think are at fault.
