    Danny Murphy

The self-appointed commentator on all things football is slating Wolves, Blackburn and Stoke for their rash tackles and in particular, their managers for sending out players pumped up and with aggressive, destructive tactics. And his manager is... Mark Hughes, ex manager of one of the above when they had the worst disciplinery record in the PL. At what point will he realise that he has just slagged off his own boss - when one of the accused managers points it out maybe?

I thought he made a very good point actually.

It's just a bit hypocritical...seeing as he plays for Mark Hughes who adopted similar tactics while at Balckburn himself.

It is a real danger for all players who do punditry while still active in the game that they come across as hypocritical. I guess there is an argument that there is a big difference between players who enjoy the physical parts of the game and those like De Jong who really do seem to not care if they injure people.

I agree with the FIFA guy who was saying the other day that the FAs should be allowed to punish people retrospectively for really dangerous challenges.

He's 'trending' on Twitter right now, it seems he kicked up a bit of a storm. I'm eagerly awaiting Sam Allardyce's response.

I didn't disagree with his comments and they seem brave in view of the amount of flak he's going to get, but they also seem foolish and ill-considered in the light of who his current manager is.

I do resent his rabid anti-foreign manager/player comments and his other interfering comments on LFC's business.

                Xenophobic prick.

Danny Murphy, the ex-Liverpool midfielder, also spoke out about his former club’s plight and believes that Roy Hodgson is the ideal manager for their current situation. “There was a huge influx of Spanish staff and players, and other foreigners, under Rafa Benitez,” he said. “That took away what Liverpool was about in many ways. The spine and nucleus of the team was disbanded and that’s been going on for a few years. I would still say Roy is the right man to stabilise the club.”

I agree with his points about too many cloggers in the league. Blackburn, Wolves and Bolton don't play football, they're a bunch of cloggers.

To be honest I think Wolves and Bolton play good football at times. Wolves have Henry who is a dirty *******. Not sure other than Davies that Bolton do anything much wrong. Alladyce always gets his teams to fight first then play later and in a different way the same is certainly true about Stoke. I think th eproblem is more about individuals than teams (although some managers do clearly give instructions to players to 'rough up' specific players at times.

Whenever referees try and clamp down though they get bleated at with people wittering on about it being a contact sport.

He's still exceedingly bitter about Rafa bombing him out as soon as he came to the club. Didn't Houllier mainly sign foreigners too?

What an absolute bitter xenophobe....pity really as i think he usually talks a lot of sense re football.

I don't think we're in a position to criticise them for that.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I don't mind Danny Murphy, but football is (was) a man's game.

This constant whining is making football less and less a contact sport every year. They need to get down to their local Sunday league matches and see some of the tackles, swapped words and 'coming togethers' before complaining about pumped up footballers going out to stop a better team playing them off the park.
