A quick glance and 'Arry created a £50m wage bill at Portsmouth.

Is it also coincidence that Southampton, West Ham and Portsmouth have floundered after he has left?

no, not a coincidence. all three had directors who didn't know how to say no apparently.

Of course 'Arry isn't the sole reason for Portsmouth's financial troubles but he was heavily involved with it - bringing highly expensive players to a club with a small stadium and virtually no overseas income streams.

But surely it's not his fault that the board sanctions those highly expensive deals? It's an incompent board that have allowed wages and transfers to get out of control. It's them that sets the wage structure and not the manager.

I hate Redknapp, but at the end of the day he doesn't write the cheques.

Regardless of how good the player is, the board should have a budget to allow them to stay well afloat.

Portsmouth is hardly a globally supported team, so unlike Liverpool, United etc they cannot afford to have debts.

At the end of the day it's clear that the board have been short sighted, gambling on success (staying up) and now the fans have to pay for the mistakes.

Going back to Arry, he was however responsible for the quality that he brought in for the budget allocated.
He jumped ship and left them with mediocre players.

He and the board - i.e. the likes of Peter Storrie - were in it together, creaming whopping percentages from every deal. It stinks.

                Exactly mate.

Managers have a level of responsibility and anyone with brains could see that team - Defoe, Crouch, Johnson, Krancjar, Muntari, Kanu - was completely unsustainable. Players signed for huge transfer fees, on huge wages and (as mentioned above) with portions of it being taken away from the club.

Bent as a nine bob note.

My West Ham mate doesn't have a good word to say about Storrie's time there for much the same reason.

Now, who was West Ham manager at that time?
                      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Staff at Portsmouth have been told they face a further pay cut as the club looks to stave off liquidation.

The club are £61m in debt and have been in administration since 17 February.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to restructure the club's costs, we have asked staff to take a further pay cut," said administrator Trevor Birch.
