While he is an undoubtedly fantastic manager, he's never won the biggest prize in club football, despite God knows how many attempts. So, until then...

Neither did Shanks though. And Wenger has got them to a final.

An absolute genius who has his flaws but has changed and built a whole new Arsenal FC within a 10 year period. Nothing but admiration for the man.
Sure he has not won anything for ages, but he has laid the foundations IMO for future Arsenal Managers, just as Shanks did for us.
Knew you'd pipe up in defence of him .
I think he's a little one dimensional. He only knows one way to play (however beautiful it is). If that doesn't work he's ****ed. He's not tactically the soundest in my opinion.
Great manage? Undoubtedly. One of the greats? Not for me.
Very different though huh? We weren't really a European Cup side when Shanks took over. The competition had only been going for a couple of years anyway and we weren't a particularly big club. He built us into a powerhouse - Arsenal when Wenger took over were already a big club and had won the title not so long before.

Fair comment about the tactical knowledge. I just think he is so stubborn in his belief of 'beautiful football' it has become his achilles heel.
Aside from that he is a genius and an all time great for what he has done for that club. I am a Wenger fan as you can tell.

He revolutionised the way English football was played and even administered, from a manager's point of view. The whole setup and preparation process undertook a complete overhaul when he came in. Genius for me. But as Shaggy says, the lack of a European Cup is a glaring void on his CV.

Sure, but in the process he changed the whole club's philosophy on and off the pitch. And he managed to extract the most of his senior players when he was there, bringing in some unbelievably good players for decent fees.
They have fallen short at the last hurdles in Europe many times and it is a really strange one that. I think he may have missed his best chance to win it (in 2006) but he has done too much good at Arsenal not to be included amongst the greats IMO.

I agree with all of that really...he's one of the greats, no doubt, but he'll only ever be an also-ran in that company, until he wins a European Cup or two. IMO.

Absolutely
When he took over the Arse, they were in total crisis. He turned them around overnight and made Premier League champions. That's something Fergie and Rafa never did. Unfortunately for him, he's undone all his good work and has completely lost the plot in the last few years.
On a side note, that woman he's rumoured to be having an affair with is pretty fit I think,
I always felt we should have tried to lure him to Anfield after he won his first title for Arsenal in 1997(?). I reckon he would have come as well. Always spoke well of us in his early years at Arsenal, and especially about the way we played our football.
How times change.

I take it back - she looks like a crack head. I saw a long distance picture of her and she looked fit.
