Look at how much more you need to pay now to get the best South American talents.

10 years ago you could get the same sort of talents for max £10m. Now you need to pay at least £20m to get talents like Lucas or Neymar. Neymar will probably cost close to £50m. Compare that to Aguero who cost £18m. Both of them the best talent in South America at the time.

Then you need to look as I said how many more billionaire owners that is prepared to splash the cash.

Then you need to look at the better TV deals.

Then you need to look at the better prize money from the CL.

So many factors that decide how much more a player will cost now compared to 10 years ago.

Denilson for one was sold for more than 20m in 1998, there is very litlle sense in how prices are with footballers. You are basically comparing different products across time, and that makes no sense whatsoever. Add to that alle the complexity not taken account for in Tomkins method, and you are left with a result that apparently suits his argumentation well.

Comparing one players price over time (say Xabi) can make a little sense, although the product have changed in that period i.e. development, age, injuries, international experience, the owners and so on. But it can give you an idea of one single players price development. But when using the method on an aggregate like saying it should also apply to all other footballers, it's making micro-reductionism / atomistic fallacy. There are to many individual factors to make it an aggregate meassurement for what a footballer should cost today.

I dont think paying £50m for Raw Talent is justifiable. **** me, spending £50m on anyone is barely justifiable at the moment. Look at the **** Chelsea got for Torres and he is proven.

Can someone remind me what all this inflation crap has to do with Eden Hazard?

I read on a Danish site that Chelsea has registered their interest in him. The source should be IB Times, but I haven't found anything on their website on that.

I think we will have to finish 4th and sign other big names before Hazard would view us as realistic move.

Aye,the money swilling about in the game is a huge factor as well as the RPI.

Real Madrid have signed Belgian wonderkid Eden Hazard on a five-year pre-contract agreement, according to reports in the Spanish media.

That news will come as a great disappointment to Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, who have all been keeping tabs on the Lille star.

Arsenal were reported to have had a bid turned down for the 20-year-old playmaker in the summer, as they chased replacements for the departed Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

The Gunners were believed to be considering a new move for Hazard when the transfer window re-opens in January, while Chelsea and Liverpool have also been eyeing up the Belgium international.

But it now seems as though Hazard will be heading to Real Madrid, with reports in the Spanish press claiming he has agreed to move to the Bernabeu in July.

Well, it increase our chances to get Higuain. I can't see him staying if they sign up a player like Hazard.

I bet its reported in the Spanish version of the Daily Sport. For what its worth, we are never going to get him. Not at the moment. Maybe in a couple of years when we are re-built. Not now.

I haven't seen a great deal of Hazard, but aren't him and Higuain quite different types of players?

They are different type of players but they play all their attacking players in a free position.

Ronaldo, Özil, Benzema, Higuain, Di Maria and Kaka play with a lot of moment and you can't say that anyone of them play right, left or centre.

You could see Kaka playing on the right side of the attack for 15 minutes and then the next 15 minutes could play in the centre. You could say the same about all their attacking players.

Kaka could of course be the player that will leave because they are similar type of players.

                              There's always Mario Gotze!
