It's just the logical, money orientated order, qualify and do well in the Champions league, attract top players that can win titles. (so long as you have the money to buy them).
Can become a bit of a catch 22 then. And what you end up with is a top 4 that gets stronger and stronger, while the other teams struggle to make the neccessary jump in quality because they a) don't have the money to afford top players, and b) the top players would rather play for a top 4 side.

What needs to happen in that situation is one of the following:

    1. The club needs to invest heavily - take a gamble
    2. Hope that one of the exisiting top 4 falls away for whatever reason (as we did)
    3. Get in a top manager and give him time to work on a project (bit like Rafa)

At the moment I think the top 4 is in a bit of a transitional phase. Only the top 2 are assured of top 4 next season. Will be interesting to see what Spurs do once Harry becomes England manager (inevitable). Chelsea are on the slide, big time. Same for Arsenal. We had a great chance this season, what with the heavy investment, but the players we've bought just haven't delivered. If we miss out on it this year, we HAVE to make it next year or I think it will really give us a mountain to climb. Basically, what I'm saying is, whatever we do this summer - whether we stick with Dalglish or not - we have to get it right.

Why would he want to go to Spurs
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Because he'd be playing in a team that plays fantastic football....

Because he could live in London - which is very handy for trips home to Belgium / Lille via Eurostar....

Because he would be one of their top players......in a team where he could potentially have Modric, Bale, Van Der Vaart, Parker all supporting him as well....

Because he would be pretty much guaranteed first team football......

Because he would be playing in the Champions League......

To be honest, there are a lot of reasons to join Spurs....

I don't believe he will go to Spurs, but instead they'll probably get Diarra on a free, Kaka on loan and Ronaldo in exchange for Lennon.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

We did that and unfortunately it backfired as our signings did not turn out to be as good as Kenny and Comolli expected.

It is catch 22 and only way to break this vicious cycle is to find the right players with winning mentality which will happen either through players development or through purchases.

Personally I think we are very close to be very competitive with likes of Cityh, Mancs, Spurs etc but in addition to the squad improvements we do need to be buy a top notch striker, AM/winger and one more good quality CM and that will not be cheap but it may be necessary to get us where we belong.

Aye but all those reasons would be applicable to Gooners and in between those 2 I see Arsenal as his more likely destination.

            Neither do I.

To me all this new "love" to Spurs is nothing but the way to start bidding war, gets as much as possible for Lille and at the end joins the club he really wants to play for.

That doesnt make sense though, surely they go hand in hand? Go for the league title and if you come anywhere near, you're obviously going to be qualifying for the CL.

I'm talking more about him getting stick for not playing a player, or his best team in a Prem game with a Champs league game coming up after, he knew doing well in Champs league enables you to attract better players, better players make it easier to win titles.

Obviously he's still aiming for the title at the same time, but doing well in Champs league helps with that aim.

It is ending but it takes more than a little over a year to undo all pain H&G put us through.

As Frank has already pointed out Spurs are playing some lovely football right now, probably the best football bar Barca I've seen for a long time.

They are still a big club don't forget, I think we as fans should show them a little more respect.
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."
