I really do give a **** and pray we win this bid. Would be a massive lift for the country and we deserve to host it after 50 years FFS. Fingers crossed.

All the Russian bid said was " We have not had it before" but that was known before the bidding kicked off.

England should be clear favourites IMO but we're not apparently. I think it's fairly obvious we have the infrastructure, stadia etc to host it successfully and we did invent the bloody game after all

I think Dave Cameron made a good point too when he said we'd be able to provide a home crowd for each nation.

Holland and Portugal have hosted tournaments recently and Russia well it's screwed and England's bid is superior in almost every way. Obviously the bribery and corruption angle sways it heavily in Russia's favour - if they get the tournament it stinks.

I really hope we get it.......boost to the economy, feel good factor etc but mainly because my boys will be 11 and 9 and would be absolutely mad for it. I'd definitely try and get to some games.

2022 - They all look **** . Think we'd have to get up at ridiculous o'clock to watch any of it. I'd probably go for Japan or Korea but they've just hosted it. Surely Australia and Qatar would be too hot and dont really have any football heritage and the US have hosted it recently and again they have dont have the heritage or the public's interest.

The Russian presentation is so poor. They have not talked about youth development, what they are putting back into football and helping the community. they are just babbling "We deserve world cup blah blah"

This is feeling uncomfortable now.

Dont Qatar reckon they're building air-conditioned indoor stadia?

Although, that wont help for non-match time. It'll be horribly hot over there for fans travelling to and from games, not to mention for the teams, who would have to train in air-con venues.

I haven't paid any attention to this - if that's all the bidders then it's got to be the US. As you say Japan and Korea have just done it, plus the Korean peninsula may be too radioactive by 2022, assuming it hasn't been obliterated completely.

Plus surely FIFA want to expand the game in the USA - that would really boost their income.

I don't know about that. I haven't followed the process at all closely but they've never hosted it before (so that gives them some kind of call on it) plus it is an important country in global politico-economic terms.

All the same, from what I've heard their bid is supposed not to be as good as the others. The simple fact is the world cup is FIFA's chief source of income so money is obviously the dominant factor. That's not just about profitability of the competition itself though - hence my comment above about the US.

Surely that'll be a little expensive, no? Or are they like Dubai where they'd just get a load of Indian 'slaves' for labour and pay them about 3p an hour.

Obviously Qatar is a historical footballing hotbed but surely the weather will rule it out.

this statement about getting up late pisses me off. The whole world doesn't live in the same time zone as you guys. If the world cup was held in Aus the whole Asian market would be able to watch the game and it would simply mean the earliest game would start early England time, with the latest game being at a good time for you. The Americans would also be able to watch all the games. It would be in our winter so the too hot thing is also wrong. We have a young football heritage, but you can't build one if you don't let football go there, this would create the heritage.
