Harry Redknapp issues PLEASE take Robbie off my hands plea

He must rue the day that he joined us.

I used to like Keane - thought he was a very good player - but his career has been in decline from the day he signed for LFC. He's hardly played for Spurs either since he re-joined. Not even half the player that he used to be.

    Strange.

Terrible shame. Being Irish I'm obviously looking at Irish players and where they're at. From an Ireland point of view we need as many players as possible playing top flight football and the last thing we need is our captain and top goal scorer not playing regular club football despite being fit. I was angry at Redknapp when I read this initially but maybe it's for the best if Keane can get a move to a club where he can get regular football.

So what do the Irish think has happened to Keane then mate? Any inside info or such like?

I mean, I know he's never been to everyone's taste but to go from being one of the best strikers in the League at Spurs, to being laughed at with us, and then to be bombed out of Spurs shortly after... it's all a bit weird isn't it?!?!

I defo think there is more to this than meets the eye. In pre-season he was fantastic for Spurs, scored plenty of goals. But he just seems to have vanished out of sight, there must be another reason for his absence.

The talk is that Keane screwed things up for himself when he told Redknapp he was organising that "golf trip" to Ireland for himself and some of the other Spurs players but then they went of the booze instead (allegedly). Shortly after that episode he was shipped off to Celtic. Obviously I do not have any inside information but the general feeling is that Redknapp didn't want much to do with Keane after that. Everyone in Ireland wants him to do well though. Personally I feel that he's very immature when it comes to his work rate. What I mean is that he does a hell of a lot of running around for very little end product. For a player of his age and experience I think he should be able to read the game better and get into better positions quicker. And shouldn't need as many chances to score 1 goal. But that won't come as any surprise to you!!

Robbie Keane is the biggest con artist in the last decade. Can't believe I (and everyone else) once thought he was any good. How did he do it?

I always thought he was crap and then he had that spell at Spurs of about 18 months (?) when he couldn't stop scoring and was the leading Prem goalscorer in a calendar year (I think). Foolishly I was duped.

For me he is on a list of players with SWP who I think does have something but has failed when asked to produce it at a big club. I think both are awkward types of player (SWP seems a natural winger but is better when springing from deep and who actually often looks better as a wing back or CM) and Keane seems to need exactly the right partner or setup to work. Mostly both are a bit disappointing.

I really do wonder whether the whole Rafa plan of Barry plus Keane would have worked or been seen as complete folly now. I think it is pretty clear that Keane wasn't the player that Rafa ideally wanted.

IMHO Keane was always going to fail with us - just not up to it. A mistake.
