Having a discussion with my brother and father in law. How do they calculate possession in football matches? Is there a person who clicks a button every time possession changes, or is it calculated by a computer? Or...? All help appreciated, preferably from someone in the know

I saw a video clip from one of the companies that collected stats once (a few years ago mind). They certainly had three people viewing the action - two initially gave a click or whatever and then one adjudicated in cases when they disagreed for passes and whatnot.

I'm pretty certain that's how Opta does it. I know Opta used to have part time jobs where you would get paid to analyse games and players. i.e. Count the number of passes a player does etc etc. I can't see how it can be calculated with a computer although prozone and the **** rafa used somehow manages to calculate how much players run etc so it must be possible. Also, no actual channel ever has identical stats which indicates that it might be a human error.
