Where were the Aussie defenders for the goal?

That is the first thing I said when they scored... The left back (Blackpool player, David Carney) randomly decided to run behind the centre defender holding the crosser, leaving the scorer in the middle completely and uterly free to put it away. Even before they scored it was so clear it was over as soon as he lost his man. Space like that should never occur in the box.

Yes, it was almost as though he didn't know the striker was there at all. Anyway, it wasn't the best game ever and Japan certainy didn't come away looking like world beaters.

I think we deserved the win by far. Kewell and Cahill dominated in the air, we just couldn't put away all of our half chances and the 1 or 2 proper opportunities we had...

I couldn't believe how negative Australia were. Playing on the break like a mid-table team.

You're right, Fernandinho, they had the chances to win but, to be honest, I'd rather competitions were won by a team playing possession football, admittedly, in Japan's case, not that well but still.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

How did Honda do in the final/rest of tournament or did he even play?

He played. I saw him in three or four games and he didn't do that much. Neat enough in possession but not threatening most of the time.

Hmmm. Seems to be more then a bit inconsistent. In and out of games so to speak.
