Roy Hodgson bemoans short-termism after West Brom fail to beat Fulham
Roy Hodgson found it hard to hide his exasperation after this match of much effort but precious little inspiration. Not so much with his West Bromwich Albion team, though they did not escape criticism from the experienced manager, as with the media.
"For journalists, the daily aspect of saying 'Today good, tomorrow bad, next day good, next day bad' bores me to tears," he said. "Obviously the table positions are interesting from the very first day and for us our position is obviously a matter of concern and we'd rather be near the top. After six games we'd have liked more than four points but I don't think any of us saw us with 18 points after six games.
"The most important thing is consistency, being able to stay in games, and after a first half like we played today it was very important that in the second half we not only stayed in the game but turned it around – and I don't think many would argue that if the game was judged on the second half alone we'd have been the winners."
"There are no false positions, lots of teams are relegation candidates. But it is where you are after 38 games that counts. If we need to start panicking about relegation, we will do that in the spring."
Heard that somewhere haven't we

I'm sure that'll go down well with Baggies fans. Dont worry about it now, when there's plenty of time to fix it. Let's leave it til the spring, when it might be too late.
What a ****ing dickhead he is, i'm so glad he isnt our problem anymore.

I feel a certain kin-ship with WBA supporters right now.
There are few sets of supporters who have had to suffer listeing to the post match ****e we have both had to. Roy seems to be slowly but surely curtailing all elements of flair that WBA had, getting them into his most loved solid 'solid 4 along the back don't cross the half way, tight four in midfield, nobody wide and a couple of big guys up front' formation. He also seems to be struggling passing on his 'We'll not win many, but we will never lose more than 2 or 3 nil' philosophy to the supporters. Loving some of the comments such as how Shane Long will be well suited to next season in the Championship. The Bodge is obviouly still thriving on the fact he feels he swooped in and saved them last season. It is all oh so familiar. Reading the WBA forum is cathartic, thank **** its not us.
What a complete wank he is. I just want him to keep getting jobs and getting sacked until the day he is forced to admit in the press that he is **** and doesn't have a clue.Last edited by Buzzo; 26-09-11, 01:45 PM.Modifying post.

To be fair he has 36 years experience with fans of multiple countries on relegation panic.Originally posted by Craig_H View Post
That's the key thing with panicking - if you time the moment of panic wrong, then you're ****ed. Panic at the right time, however, and you're onto a winner.

Long was not the player to buy if we are going to play hoofball.
May as well have bought Carew instead.
Both Wingie and Long need to be played up front with balls played for them to run onto.
Roy's plan at the moment seems to be to play players out of position and remove their major threat. Thomas, Wingie are the main examples.
I'm expecting Wingie in goal next week with Foster up front. Be just as effective as the way he is playing players at the moment. The writing was on the wall when he stuck Olsson up front during his first game in charge.
His half-arsed attempt at a muddled 4-3-3 on Saturday (not even the players seemed to know what to do, and it ended up resembling a 4-5-1), seemed half designed to fail embarrassingly, so that he could change it as soon as possible back to 4-4-2 and then turn round after the game and say "I told you so".
He even had the cheek to say that we reverted back to our tried and tested formation, as if the 4-2-3-1 we employed largely successfully for two years has already been forgotten. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
