i watched the game and thought something happened - seen him go down and everyone round him but just assumed that in the chaos of the celebrations and pitch invasions he had just knocked over by accident.

Didn't realise he got sparked...shocking behaviour.

On another note tho - how funny would it be going back in the dressing room - because he was the last one on the pitch...he would have walked in, everyone jumping round going nuts...."guess what lads...some cunt just sparked me out..." "what?" "yeah some lad ran over and ****ted out the blue.." "bollocks"
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

My housemate told me that there was an article in the scum that the assaliant is going out with a bird that used to date said Stevenage player. This was well over 2 years ago though, but he got angry/jealous when he saw him celebrate.

Perfect enough reason to go knocking people out

Of course not, he's obviously an upstanding pillar of the community apart from his violent disposition.

Honestly though, who hits a player for the team you support for something as trivial as that! If I found out Luka Modric slept with my missus X amount of years ago, I'd tell her to never wash her cooter again!!

Stevenage star 'was decked by ex-lover's boyfriend'

The Stevenage player who was decked by a pitch invader at the end of his side's shock FA Cup victory was punched by the boyfriend of a former lover, a report has claimed.

Scott Laird (pictured) was celebrating on the pitch with team-mates and fans following the League Two side's historic 3-1 victory over Newcastle on Saturday when a fan ran over to him and laid him out with a single punch.

And Tuesday's S*n reports that Laird was smashed in the face by 24-year-old Rob Fitzgerald, current boyfriend of stunning blonde Jade Coles. She claims that Fitzgerald thought he was "protecting her honour".

Fitzgerald was charged with common assault and pitch invasion on Tuesday. He has bailed to appear before magistrates on January 26.

"I haven't been in a relationship with Scott now for two or three years but Rob knows about it," Coles explained to The Sun.

"Scott was a player and I don't mean on the pitch. He was a bit of a ladies' man.

"Rob was at the game celebrating the victory on the pitch. He saw Scott celebrating and just lost his temper.

"He'd been drinking and that's why it happened. He was being protective. It was a moment of madness."

Laird had shrugged the punch off at the time, saying, "it was a fantastic day for everyone at Stevenage and I don't want to let the incident take the gloss away".

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
