I see what you mean and I agree. But apart from Flanagan's first game or two that he played, have you seen anything at all in him that makes you think he could make it here?Originally posted by dww View PostI think there is a real issue with writing off players (especially young ones) after a small number of games as 'not good enough'.
It's three years ago since he made his debut and he's stagnated. Gone backwards if anything.
I agree with Matt on this one.

If you can remember Kelly in a non-injured state then I salute your memory sir.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostAbsolutely spot on.
Kelly, before his injury, looked very promising. Thought he was very good defecnsively and was very willing to get forward. Hopefully he will rediscover that form once he gets playing again.
The irony is he will be just about ready and match fit as Glen makes him comeback. Then, as the season wears on, he'll pick up a training ground injury just when we need him. Sorry for sounding so negative, I actually like him too.One tit for another.

I was mostly referring to Wisdom.Originally posted by Lee View PostI see what you mean and I agree. But apart from Flanagan's first game or two that he played, have you seen anything at all in him that makes you think he could make it here?

I think a lot of players stagnate or go backwards if they don't get game time. Defenders especially have to gain experience/make mistakes to improve. I tend to think that Flanagan is at a stage where he has to leave to get that."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

What is an interesting contrast, for me, is the difference in quality between Sakho and Kelly.
One is seen as a beast of a player that has plenty of experience already and who might go on to be a top class centre back.
The other gets constantly spoken of as potential and how he would be a beast at CB.
Both are 23.
Sakho, imo, is a great example of what a defender who was seen as a great talent in his late teens should look like at 23. Kelly is starting to look like a player who was hyped to no end when in his late teens but who is not all that much further along some four years later.
Would love to see Kelly make it, but between injuries and whatnot he has not even managed to hold down a semi regular slot at full back let alone being a fixture in a position he has not yet played in for a competitive first team game.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I was only referencing how Wisdom had performed this season, not long term or how he will eventually turn out.Originally posted by dww View PostI think there is a real issue with writing off players (especially young ones) after a small number of games as 'not good enough'.

Without doubt this is the make or break season for Kelly. If he gets any more injuries he's dead & buried at our club I think. If he stays fit, gets some games but fails to take advantage he's gone too IMO.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostWhat is an interesting contrast, for me, is the difference in quality between Sakho and Kelly.

I think we all want to 'find' the next big thing so we can spruke that we knew that were destined for greatness since we first saw them.Originally posted by saj View PostI've never understood the hype surrounding Kelly.
makes us feel good about ourselves doesn't it.
