Wasn't ready for the first team and Rodgers was never going to sell Allen.

Even if we loaned him out he'd be coming back next year in the same position, I'd have got rid of Allen personally but its just not gonna happen.

One of the best goals I've ever seen that. Allen couldn't have done that, he's ****.

When you get back a player that's better than Allen, well then you just play him instead, why was Rodgers after Mkhitaryan then?

I wish we would lock this thread because it will just serve as constant embarrasing reminder of how stupid his sale was.

For ****'s sake I seriously can not get over this (((

          ?

Shelvey has shown glimpses but overall last season I think he was a bit disappointing, yes he's still young but his flaws were there to see. No pace whatsoever and he couldn't keep his cool in even a non heated situation, too rash.

I think the potential is there, definitely and Swansea have gotten themselves a great deal at £5m but my point stands, Rodgers isn't going to drop Allen, he believes in him. Personally I think Shelvey has more potential than Henderson but there you go.

Yeah he was disappointing, he suffered from not playing regularly, that's what a loan deal is for. You mentioned a loan yourself, if hypothetically speaking he came back a better player, better than Allen, how can you say Rodgers still wouldn't drop the Welsh Xavi? That sounds a bit funny to me.

Because already it seems Allen is back in ahead of Henderson who has proven to be in better form over the last few months of the season.

Shelvey IMO although disappointing was not half as bad as Allen in the 2nd half of the season, he started really well but it seems he's been found out. His shoulder injury is no reason to dwell on the ball and get it taken off you time and time again. Rodgers IMO is banking on Allen being able to replicate the form he showed during his first 10 or so games, which I'm not sure he will.

Shelvey tried more direct passes, longer balls and shot for distance a fair bit even when more simple passes were on. I think Rodgers prefers the way Henderson and Allen go about their play but to me it seems a little bit narrow minded, I'm not saying he won't change or be proven right! Just that our midfield looks weak and predictable at times, a more direct and physical player would stand out so much for all the right reasons in our side, its just not his style.

That's fair enough but Shelvey isn't a top six player even if he is useful in being more physical and direct. If we need one of those then we have a massiely better one in Gerrard.

Shelvey's got some good goals in him but he wasn't that good for us and that's why he was sold.

The kind of player that needs something to get him going, and being bombed out of Liverpool has given him something to prove (and get going).

Totally agree with that Tee. There is a chance that after his red card and time away he started to feel like he had already earnt his position in the team.

Good interview that. Cheers for posting.

Still like the lad. Perhaps not the sort of player Rodgers wants but I'd rather have loaned him out than give him away for £5m.

Although he was never the same player after that red card against United.

This Was A Fantastic Gesture From Jonjo Shelvey.

Jonjo Shelvey has made seven-year-old Londoner Harry Jacobs’ dream come after he received a hopeful letter from the young fan.

Like Shelvey, Harry suffers from alopecia totalis, which causes a sudden and complete loss of all body hair. He wrote a letter to Shelvey asking him to visit his primary school. He began:

You are amazing and scored a goal from 47 yards into the top corner. So, so, so good.

I know you play for Swansea. My name is Harry and I have Alopecia like you. Do you like it? I think it is medium because I can’t get nits and don’t have to go to the hairdressers – which is good. I don’t really like it though.

Can you come to my school please, but first to my house. I can take you to school then to meet my friends

Harry’s mother completed the letter, adding:

Harry has developed Alopecia really rapidly. He is a mad footy fan and has got some comfort from the fact that you are a Premiership footballer who he can look up to and see that he can still achieve incredible things.

I would really appreciate if you could write back to him. He is going through a really tough time at the moment and it would be a real boost for him to have a response from you.

Shelvey received the letter through Swansea City and invited Harry and his parents to Swansea’s game against Southampton. Harry’s parents were given the full executive box treatment, while the youngster was kitted out in the Swans’ all white and made an official mteam mascot for the day. He was allowed to walk out onto the pitch with Shelvey and took pentalites against Cyril the Swan at half time. After the game Shelvey explained his gesture. He said:

I know what it was like for me growing up as a boy with Alopecia,’’ explained Jonjo afterwards. “It was quite tough for me with people calling me names and things.

I felt for Harry when I got the letter and it was nice for me to share some of my experiences with him and to try and guide him along the right lines.

The best bit though was seeing the look on his face walking out with the team. He said he had a great time – and that’s so special.
