Originally posted by Kenneth View PostI would exclude Gerrard from that. Our MF 3 should be Allen, Lucas and Shelvey. Gerrard should be back up to Jonjo now, imo.
At least Shelvey gets into the box and doesn't stop ball movement the second he receives a pass.
Gerrard is a liability at this point, either move him to the front three or don't play him at all.

Only read first page of post match, reluctantly through boredom.
Seen a couple of negative comments about Shelvey who I though was one of our best players yesterday, despite wasting a few opportunities. Was I watching a different match or he is starting to become the new whipping boy?If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I thought he played a couple of lovely through balls and also won a few balls in first half.
Admittedly I did fall asleep at half time and lost concentration throughout the second even though I was awake.

This year we are starting to see a bit of what he's capable of. He's improving & we need to be patient with him as he'll have good & bads days. Signs are promising though IMO.Originally posted by RedReet View PostOnly read first page of post match, reluctantly through boredom.

Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

If we could put in a take back clause, I’d be tempted to send him out on loan in January and let Suso take his place as cover.Originally posted by SB View PostThis year we are starting to see a bit of what he's capable of. I was completely against the idea in August as I argued he was one of our few goal threats from midfield, but bar yesterday his form has dropped a bit and he really could do with regular games. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He will gain nothing from playing for the reserves and it's becoming more obvious that wide in a 3 is not his position. Shelvey went on loan last year and did well for Blackpool and something similar for Suso would benefit him IMOOriginally posted by RedReet View PostI think Shelvey is at the age where he needs regular football though. Think Suso is still ok for now making the odd cameo and turning out for the reserves for fitness.
Shelvey will get minutes for us between now and the end of the season more then Suso will.

I would have no problems with that at all but for Shelvey's development I think he could benefit more from playing regular first team football for another PL club, especially if he continues to struggle as he has a bit recently.Originally posted by Chazza View PostHe will gain nothing from playing for the reserves and it's becoming more obvious that wide in a 3 is not his position. With Sturridge on board, there should be less need to play Suso up top so as I said if Shelvey went out on loan I'd be happy for Suso to fill in in the middle when needed. Assuming of course, Gerrard, Lucas, Allen and Henderson all stay fit so he isn't needed that often. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Shelvey does have talent in there, when he has time and space he can make things happen. I thought after a storming pre season he would push on but he has been very poor this season. Gave few lovely through balls to Sturridge in the first half but apart from that he was poor.
Shelvey isn't gifted with much pace and athleticism, much like Alonso i suppose in that respect. But difference between the two is Alonso's quick feet and the fact his footballing brain is always working overtime. IMO Shelvey is not ready to be a regular starter for LFC, good squad player to have but alas .... we have too many of them as it is.
