People have rightly started to worry that his legs have gone a bit, and with Dirk, if that was happening what would really be left? Doesn't mean he should be thrown on the scrap heap, but playing intermittently (as he has) seems fair enough to me.

As for leaving, I'd be sad to see him go, always been a huge fan of the guy both on and off the pitch, but if someone was prepared to give us £5m+ I think it would be fair enough to sell.
I'd start with Kuyt with every game, but I can fully understand why Kenny kept the same team more or less as against Brighton. That was obviously the team hs had in mind for the final and after a performance like Brighton he had no reason to change.

It will break my heart to see Dirk leave but I've accepted at times this season it's probably inevitable and maybe best for both parties. So I agree, anything above £5m would be good business providing we buy a decent replacement.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's been poor, Henderson/Downing being poor too doesnt change that. And again, whats this so called disrespect?

i do think you raise some good points at times, but you seem to relish putting people down and making out they're against the club because the points they make aren't always as positive as you seem to what/expect.
I'd say paranoia is saying a simple question was having a pop at you myself! And thanks for the positive and negative feedback, though given you've not even been registered for two weeks it might be a bit early for judgement on my posting style. Unless....you were a long time lurker of course.

fair enough. i'm just at a lose as to why henderson plays ahead of him, and even downing - although in fairness he plays on the other side and is probably the only genuine winger at the club.

whilst kuyt has had some shockers this season, i'm not denying that, he's still someone who's delivered almost every time in a big game...whether it be an assist, a goal or generally a storming performance. he's a match winner.

anyway, lets hope he plays a big part towards the end of the season. should definetely start against arsenal imo.

kuyt being poor will still fight like a lion, and get an assist/goal. same can't be said for henderson and downing when they're playing poorly, much more likely to go missing than anything else.

i'm going on your contribution yesterday when you were moaning about people moaning more than giving your own views. that's your choice, and no-one can tell you what to do/not to do. but as i say, i think you make some good posts. just feel some comments you've made in the last week were a touch uncalled for.
maybe you're not like that all the time, who knows.

He's got one goal and one assist in the league this season, same as Henderson and not a lot better than Downing, they've all been much of a muchness really. But yeah if I had to pick one it'd be Dirk. I dont see him being left out as disrespectful though, thats just football. Is Dirk disrespecting Kenny and LFC by playing poorly?

The moaning was more than warranted, we'd just won a trophy and people log on here to read posts saying we should be "embarrassed", "Dont be too happy" "Kenny should go in the summer", it was utterly ridiculous.

in the league, yes, but he's also scored in the cups at vital moments - winners vs the scum, and a goal in extra-time yesterday, also coverted his pen in the shootout.

i'm not saying, play kuyt every game, and we win every game. and i'm not pretending he's great every game. i'm making the point that he shouldn't be benched ahead of players that fail to deliver week in, week out. that's my main gripe.

but **** it, big game coming up at weekend against the gunners, time to focus on that now. well, once these ****ty internationals are out of the way.

I may have said that it is time to move on for him, maybe earlier in this thread itself. Twice this month he has made me jump out of my couch with joy. I think we should retain him and bring him on only for important games.

He's not the same player he used to be. Look at Vladimir Smicer. He scored in the Champions League Final and did we keep him? No.

We have to move on and stop with the sentimental stuff. We need fresh, quick young legs on the flanks who will put in the effort.

He's a top professional, a model on what the attitude and commitment of Liverpool players should be. We need to think about moving the old guard like Maxi, Aurelio and Kuyt though.

I agree with your general sentiment. I was of the same opinion till a month ago. However next year we are going to be in Europe and if you include all other cup competitions, we are going to have 10-15 important games where Kuyt can start.

He is a big game player, no doubt about it. Right now I am not confident we have enough players who can step up and take penalties under pressure situation.

While I understand your point about being too sentimental, we dont want to go down the Arsenal route also.

Some nice words from that Benitez hating cunt Carragher :

"Dirk's a big game player. You look at his record in big games, taking penalties in shoot outs and you never think he's gonna miss. He's got a great record from penalties, he got the winner against Man United a couple of weeks ago in the FA Cup and he always gets important goals and always plays well in big games."

"He showed that again at Wembley, coming off the bench and getting that goal. I was delighted for him that we won as it's his first medal but I was disappointed that his goal wasn't the winner. He cleared one off the line as well and it would have been great for him if his goal had settled it. He was as delighted as anyone afterwards though, he was desperate to get hold of his first trophy."

"His penalty was vital, if he'd have missed that I think it would have been the end of us after missing the first two. The pressure of that penalty was massive but to put it away the way he did shows what type of player he is and the mental strength the lad has got."

sentimental stuff? are you actually serious??? he's a proven match winner and has been one of our key players over the years.
sentiment has **** all to do with it as we're seeing with every liverpool fan agreeing that carra should be more nothing more than a squad player now.

as for 'moving on the old guard like maxi, aurelio, and kuyt' give us a valid reason as to why we should do this? aurelio, yes, as he's never match fit but unless we're going to bring in real quality players then what's the point in getting rid of experienced and productive footballers like kuyt and maxi??
don't see the sense in it.

Erm, yeah I am being serious.

Kuyt was poor for 6 months and two goals against Man Utd and Cardiff suddenly warrants him another year? No thanks. We need to move on and get this summer right. Bring in fresh young legs with quality. He's even slower than before and is having less of an impact whenever he plays. His attitude is spot on as I said before, but on the pitch, it's a no from me.

Maxi has had a few stinkers recently too. We have to consider his wages in this too and the fact that Newell Old Boys are likely to be back in for him.
