Still, some people aren't so keen. Like Dorchester Town's Ashley Vickers who, when a chap in a mankini bounded onto the field during their game against Havant & Waterlooville, helped the labouring stewards out by tackling the little scamp to the ground.

A kindly way of hurrying things along? Not in the view of the ref anyway, who deemed this a red card offence.

"The funny thing was the stewards actually thanked me for it," said Vickers. "But the ref decided to send me off and it beggars belief. Their players told the ref not to send me off and their chairman even offered to take a player off to even things up."

He went on: "I'm sure people will crucify me for this but I have broad shoulders."

Refs can't expect respect if they cannot even use common sense in matters like this.
I'm sure the Ref's union will back him up with some sub-section of whatever, inferring that "contact with spectators and/or members of public not involved with general play will result in disciplinary action" or some such tripe.

Absolutely ridiculous............think its about time there was another DiCanio/Alcock incident ! Which there might well be before the end of the season, given recent happenings in English football.........elbows not only allowed but encouraged, maiming happening with only yellows given out, people not talking to the media, refs not having to come out and explain themselves, shootings being carried out etc etc
