Abidal? Id imagine he would go back to France or something. PSG would wanna snap him up for a bit of positive publicity ala Beckham.

He already stated that he want's to go back to France, and I'm sure there are a host of clubs interested there! I could see Monaco going for him...

I just looked at his Wiki, he used to play for Monaco. So that could make sense.

Not great from Barca if this is true.

Liga - Abidal: Barcelona didn’t pay me during my illness

Eric Abidal has admitted his frustration at how Barcelona handled his exit this summer and revealed that they did not pay him during his illness

The Frenchman battled back from a liver transplant undergone in 2012 to return to action for Barca in the closing weeks of the 2012-13 season.

However, it was not enough to convince the Catalans to extend his contract, who explained their decision to release him was based on football grounds only.

Abidal has since joined Monaco and now the 33-year-old has admitted that he was unhappy with how things ended at Camp Nou.

“The problem was that I was out of contract. In these cases, your contract is renewed or it ends,” said Abidal, who returns to international duty with France.

“I was prepared for both situations. It was complicated and difficult to accept, but I had no other choice. The adventure with Barcelona is over, but I am very happy to have started another with Monaco.

“It was difficult to understand, it was the words of Barca at my last press conference. By asserting that it was a professional choice, it set doubts in other clubs.

“It was not even about money. The proof is that in every month that I was sick, the club has not paid me.

“Today, I am fortunate to have the confidence of the coach and the president of Monaco. Touch wood, everything is fine. But it is true that I had a period of doubt.

“Would it have gone differently if Guardiola was still at the club? Certainly. This is a person who I like a lot and who I am still in contact with.

“He is a great coach, it was he who gave me my chance. If he had still been there, I might have been able to continue.”

            Odd one I suppose.
There's no way in hell that a high profile club could not honour the terms of a contract with a high profile player, and certainly no way they could overrule EU and Spanish employment/illness laws.
Suspect there may be more to the story.........his core salary was probably paid in part with whatever insurers they have, but understandably, any appearance fees aren't in there. Would have to hear both sides of the story.

Eric Abidal: Dani Alves offered Barcelona team-mate his liver

Ex-Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has revealed former team-mate Dani Alves offered him part of his liver when the Frenchman needed a transplant.

Abidal, 34, who now plays for Monaco, was diagnosed with a liver tumour and underwent an operation in March 2011.

He had a transplant in April 2012 with part of an organ donated by his cousin.

"When I had to undergo surgery, Dani wanted to donate his liver," said Abidal in an interview with Spanish radio station Catalunya.

"Logically, he couldn't because he is a professional footballer."

Abidal made a playing comeback in April 2013 after his liver transplant, but was released by Spanish champions Barcelona in the summer.

Brazil right-back Alves, who was Abidal's team-mate at the Nou Camp for five seasons, decided to wear the France international's old number 22 shirt following his return to Monaco.

Abidal added: "The story with Dani goes beyond the jersey. He knows it. Me too. We are friends and we talk about everything. He wanted to support me.

"And besides, he's a very good person. He was my neighbour and his ex-wife and my wife are friends."

Abidal also tweeted: "Thanks brother" alongside a picture of himself and Alves playing for Barcelona.

Reading in to that, it would've spelled the end of Alves's career. If so then wow
