    West Ham fans disgrace themselves

West Ham are investigating a report that the families of their players Victor Obinna and Frederic Piquionne were racially abused during the defeat by Manchester United on Saturday.

Obinna and Piquionne, originally from Nigeria and New Caledonia respectively, appeared as substitutes as West Ham lost 4-2 at Upton Park.

The club are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses and they said in a statement that anyone found guilty of racial abuse "will be dealt with appropriately".

Co-chairman David Sullivan told the Evening Standard he would be "appalled" if the allegations of racist abuse proved correct.

"It is particularly sad that the families of our players were so treated," he said.

West Ham's supporter plan states that "there is no place for racism, prejudice and abuse in football" and it warns that in the past fans have been banned from the Boleyn Ground and convicted on criminal charges for their behaviour at matches.

"I believe all human beings are equal. We are all born with different physical attributes," added Sullivan.

"We will be monitoring CCTV, interviewing stewards and taking strong action against offenders if these allegations are proved to be correct."

It has been reported that a relative of Obinna, who had been watching the match from an executive box, confronted spectators about the abuse.

West Ham are one of 30 professional clubs to have achieved the first level of the Racial Equality Standard set up by the Kick It Out campaign.

Saw that. Absolutely outrageous if true.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was. I know all fans have their bad apples, but a lot of West Ham supporters live local to the club and you only have to look at who they vote for.

Labour you mean? The Boleyn is in Stephen Timms' constituency and he's a Labour MP.

I know what you mean but it's only some West Ham fans, just like it's only some voters who vote for racist parties like the BNP and UKIP and the Conservatives. Whoops, not all Conservatives - pardon me. Andrew Rosindell in nearby Romford is pretty right wing though.

Anyway even though it's only some fans who are racist, it's still too many.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I knew I should of researched before coming out with that statement, but thankfully it still seems you know what I was getting it.

Didn't Dagenham and other areas close to West Ham give BNP the nod though?

Probably still some Scot’s lingering around London after the last Internationals…

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

They had councillors but pretty much got wiped out I think after a big push by Labour and the other mainstream parties.

Richey might know more. He's big mates with Rosindell.

                  Only joking Richey.
