utd will soak up the pressure and break. And when they break with pace from valencia, nani, hernandez, rooney they will be difficult to handle. It takes chelsea and age to build upto the last 3rd, and when they get there they run out of ideas especially with torres in the team. If torres starts 2nd leg. Its over.

yup remember many a LFC fan slagging him off, Valencia is an excellent player. Before his injury his producivity was fantastic loads of assists and vital play in the danger areas, and looking excellent since coming back too. Very underrated IMO

Must be difficult to be the manager of Chelsea considering that you really can't make the subs you want or play the system you want etc.

No chance that Ancelotti really wanted to take off Drogba but he couldn't take off Torres because Roman wouldn't exactly like that.

If Ancelotti could decide the tactics himself then Torres would score the goals they signed him to do without any doubt at all.

          Absolutely fella.

Every United fan i know rate him and believe me they're a hard bunch to please - he's not the most skillful of wingers but he has pace to burn, he's stong, he retains possession, is hard working and as you say he's productive in terms of assists, which is what it's all about(as a winger anyway).

Fergie the cunt got his tactics spot on tonight - United's midfield was just too fluent and energetic for Chelsea.
I'm surprised at how much Essien has declined this season...used to be a machine that man.

I don't think Essien declined that much. It is just that he plays with a player, Ramirez, that don't have that great positional sense to say the least.

As I said. It can't be easy for the manager not being able to play the players and the system he want to play.

Cant see them winning the CL even though I think they're in the final now. Only slight worry is Barca and Real absolutely hammer eachother in that second leg and whoever goes through is left with injuries and suspensions. As long as its not Xavi or Messi it'll be alright.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Ray Wilkins: Criticism of my commentary style doesn't bother me - I enjoy it

Former Stamford Bridge assistant insists the transition from the dugout to the gantry has been tough but shrugs off hecklers following coverage of Tottenham's loss to Real Madrid

                            by Rob Maul

Ray Wilkins, the former England, Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder, has hit back at online critics who disapproved of his style of commentary during Sky Sports’ Champions League coverage on Tuesday night.

Carlo Ancelotti's former assistant at Stamford Bridge had been denounced for constantly referring to Tottenham as "we" rather than "they" during Harry Redknapp's side's European clash with Real Madrid.

The 54-year-old, one of the most respected individuals within the English game, has conceded that making the transition from the dugout to the microphone has proven more difficult than first anticipated.

“I suppose [criticism] it’s the same as playing, isn’t it? People will like you and some people won’t. It's as simple as that. You just get on with [the criticism]," said Wilkins.

“When I’m doing Chelsea, I must admit I have been doing a lot of ‘we’. It’s not ‘we’, it’s ‘them’. That has been the most difficult [aspect]. But that is just [a case of] getting it out of the system. In fact my son has even given me a bit of grief.”

Wilkins has been a regular face on television since his unexpected and somewhat controversial departure from Chelsea last November when the club confirmed that he would not be retained as assistant manager to Ancelotti despite helping the team to the Premier League and FA Cup double last season.

He was employed this week as co-commentator during Tottenham’s 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu – but a number of online forums and social networking sites, particularly Twitter, criticised his choice of partisan language towards the English club.

On Tuesday evening, Wilkins' repeated phrase "stay on your feet", which referred to a player's attempt to tackle an opponent, made Twitter's trending list.

But Wilkins, speaking at the launch of the Lucozade Powerleague Centre, within the shadow of Wembley, responded that the TV work, however hard it might be, is incredibly fulfilling: “I’m enjoying the commentary work. It’s not the same but it is as close as you can be, to be able to give an opinion. And that’s all it is, an opinion.

“It’s not for me to say that anyone else is wrong [with their own opinions] but I do enjoy it. It’s fun. It’s not the same as getting up every morning and having a giggle with the lads. It is a lot of night work.”

One prominent Tweeter, Piers Morgan, the former Daily Mirror editor and now CNN’s flagship talk-show host in New York, who has more than half a million followers on the social networking site, wrote on his account two days ago: “Memo to Ray Wilkins: suggest you stop saying ‘we’ and start saying ‘they’ – re: Spurs.”

But an incredulous Wilkins replied: “So Piers Morgan gave me some grief? That’s quite good actually. I’d thought he has got bigger fish to fry than [worrying about] me. I’m quite pleased with that.”
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
