also, I very much doubt that is reason enough for anyone to dislike an opposing manager. To me it probably boils down to the same reason why people tend to either hate/love Ferguson, Mourinho etc. succesfull managers tend to create that kind of black/white image around them. And especially the direct competition sees it that way...
The thing is that Hodgson (for example) is supposed to have employed a form of zonal marking in the 80s. It is one of those grossly over simplified myths that Rafa was the first to bring it here. It's just that a few moron journalists with high profile positions are anti-anything that looks like intellectualism or something they don't understand.

Overall I think that the Liverpool job has been a bad one to take for PR reasons without an existing set of cheerleaders in this country. We are a historically big club who haven't had the sustained investment or consistent youth system that could breed the sort of success that we crave and the media image associates with us. The managers are all held up as failures for not winning the league when in reality they are not competing with the necessary resources to do it.

Also Rafa is a no bull**** sort of guy. Which has exacerbated all of the above problems. Sometimes he has been his own worst enemy in terms of presentation but overall I think his statements have been shown to be more accurate than those of most who criticised him.

Britain had zonal marking in the 80s. or at least mainly zonal with a couple picking up specific danger men.

I was being sarcastic. Zonal marking was in the Premier League long before Rafa came but was something picked up by Sky/Andy Gray and used as another stick to beat him with.

Funny how they never mentioned the goals conceded when Hodgson changed it to man marking.
Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

I think that Mourinho was hated by alot of other people in football, but this was somewhat swept under the carpet as the media loved his arrogance.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think it was because they knew who he really is!!!!

Joking aside, other managers such as Fergie don't like competition, that was what Rafa gave them and it rattled them, he didn't conform to the Fergie "brown nosing appreciation" society and was given grief by the usual mob Sam "I should manage Madrid" Alladyce, Fat Head and the other stooges.

It of course doesn't help that the club didn't back him up at all in the media. Lobbying his case. Instead G&H hired PR agencies to spread lies about him. It was Barrett that mentioned that last year IIRC.

The chaos at the club certainly didn't help. Rafa was all alone out there.

Rafa mentioned in the five live interview that he decided to get KK back to get in someone that would fight for the club.
