    How accurate is this?

Without adjustment for inflation, not particularly meaningful at all I'd say, with it being over such a long period.

Aside from the inflation aspect, do we think the actual figures are fairly realistic? Not so much looking from the meaningful aspect at the minute, but rather just the figures themselves.

The reason i ask, is because a dullard Spurs supporting mate of mine presented me with this table, after i had been talking about how much they've spent and how their recent 'success' isnt some miracle-working by Redknapp, but just the expected outcome of spending ****loads.

So he showed me that table, as if to prove his point that WE in fact have spent ****loads, rather than them. I pointed out that my comments had been based on recent spending, and that even his link merely shows that we've only spent £24m more than them across 19 years (not much difference) and yet, they've only finshed above us once in that time. So really, the link doesnt help his argument much

What is? PL net spending? Or Rodney Trotter?

No idea; I mean you'd expect us to be in the top 5 over that period, definitely. I do think our transfer policy has been quite poor at times.

I don't think you can read much into the order on that table in terms of the time period, though. It's probably a better reflection of spending over the last 10 years than it is the period it states due to the huge difference in transfer prices. Whether anyone can be arsed to figure check I don't know, and they'd be a very bored (but well thanked ) person indeed if they could be bothered to have a decent stab at doing inflation adjustment!

Tomkins has done something similar but focussing mainly on us...

This list he came up with was interesting...

(CTPP is inflation adjusted equivalent for Feb2010)

                  Now that is interesting.

£50m on Torres, £52m on Shevchenko.

The Figures for us look about right, the article is dated April 2010 so that ignores spending of the Bodge and Kenny's return, strictly speaking not all of Souness's transfers were in the Premiership era, but it seems close enough. There isn't an exact match but you probably wouldn't expect that.

Liverpool spend by manager (figures in million pounds):

                    ....................Bought.....Sold.........Net
                    Souness.........17.95.......9.825.......8.125
                    Evans............39.3.........16.95.......22.35
                    Evans/Houllier..3.5..........0.4...........3.1
                    Houllier...........126..........56.225......69.775
                    Rafa...............229.125....148.13......80.995
                    Totals............415.875....231.53....184.345

                    Figures from http://www.liverweb.org.uk/transfers.htm

I've no idea about any of the figures for other clubs
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
