Black people, Indians, Asians basically anyone that hasn't got a British heritage. Not all of them but a lot of the people I met. We have family and family friends from there. One time my mates family were over and stayed with us for a while and one of my other mates came down from Luton (recently moved there from Cardiff) to catch up as he was a friend of there family as well. They asked him what Luton was like, he said it was a **** hole. They asked straight faced if it was cause it was full of "Negros" Me and my brother wet ourselves thinking it was a joke then realised it wasn't a joke.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Thats the thing, is that we are so no racist that using terms which are derogatory overseas have no meaning in Australia because most people just don't put a second thought towards it.

Racism is such a problem in other places that as soon as a word to do with culture is used everyone is on the offensive.

Mmm strange as Cairns is full of Islanders, Aboriginals, Whites, Asians and Africans and we all seem to get on pretty well.

The Aboriginal problem is partly that of those not wanting to help themselves and partly lack of understanding or help on the other side.

I've not really encountered any racism here but perhaps I keep a better class of friends?

The racism to do wit aborigines was all done by the english people when they first came over. if anything its the complete opposite now. aborigines are offered a lot more then the average aussie to do with welfare services and i know that private schools actually offer scolarships to indigenious australians.

It might not so much be nasty racism, but the words they use like wogs, coons, abbo's, ****'s seem very common and haven't got so much of a shock factor

I've got an Aussie mate who lives near me, he's a great bloke but he uses 'coon', 'n***er' and all those kinds of words all too readily. Does my head in. For example if a black player scores against LFC (he's a Red), he'll text me saying "****ing coon" or some such bollocks.

Sorry Shaggy, he sounds like a right cunt. You need to have a word mate.

Spoken about it before. It always comes down to the 'fact' that in Australia they're just words and not thought of so offensively, "it's just banter". I'm never going to agree so I just ignore it. He plays in a cricket team which is full of Asian lads and I know he's not *really* racist. It's just the language but still I really disapprove.

I remember once taking him to Anfield with my other mates who'd never met him before. We'd barely got on the motorway and he started talking about 'Pakis' - although I reluctantly accept that over there it's simply an abbreviation without the racist, negative connotations. Still, that was a very embarrassing and awkward moment.

I'm not gonna lie - pretty much every Aussie I've ever met uses racist language liberally. Wog, coon, n-word...the works. They just roll off the tongue

It was started by the English but it was 200 years ago. Things were more acceptable then, in the modern era Australia treat it's indigenous people dreadfully. I was first friends with lots of Aussies before I visited the country, I love the place let me say that first. I was used to calling them Abbos and thinking it was the norm (bit like Jocks, Taffys, Paddys), when I went out there I said Abbos when we were having a party at some girls flat and she went into her bedroom crying (cause she had been dating one for 9 years and didn't like the word). Also a lot of the people used the exact same point as you saying they get higher welfare services and such before sticking the boot into them, and thinking that makes it ok the treat them as second class citizens (not saying you are by any means). That is the sort of point that EDL use when referring to Muslims
