Ur not getting the point, Bender, of course i want Kenny is charge next season but if
he has the same squad at his disposal then, imo, our position in the league won't be much different to what it is now.(this time next yr)

No i don't think he is saying that

he's basically saying that had dalgish took over for the start of this season, because of our lack of quality in the squad, there was no way we could have guarenteed a top four finish

At least i think that's what he means, because i do agree with that....

But...we are also forgetting something that was a bigger issue than who the manager was.....who the owners were/are as well....

Now we have a new manager in kenny, who for the first time in years and years, has managed to pretty much unite the fans, plus new owners, and the chance for dalgish to shape his own squad in the summer, then next year, well it's a totally different kettle of fish

But for arguements sake - even with Kenny in charge....if we started next season with completley the same set of players we currently have....then yes i do think we'd struggle again for a top4 place next year...

Why? - nothing against kenny - but it's back to the point that i felt the current squad is 3 or 4 quality players short of being able to compete with the 5 teams above us....especially when all of those 5 teams will look to strengthen again

The difference is that our squad wouldn't be the same though. For instance Kenny would have bought decent players with the mass of cash that Hodgson pissed up the wall on Konchesky (who cost us the Spurs game so there's some points straight away) and the Christian Poulsen. He also would have stood a better chance at standing up to Purslow while he was out and about giving away our players.

We'd have had a better squad than we have now. We'd also have resisted the urge to play a style of footy that bordered on pub standard
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

God, historical 'what if' discussions get dull. They always seem so appealing at first as well.

Yep that's exactly the point i'm trying to make.

It's in no way a dig at Kenny, it's the lack of quality in the first 11 and squad has a whole that means Lpool making 4th is just too much to ask for any manager no matter how good he is.

But aye, if(if ) we can bring in the right players in vital positions, then we have the right manager and coaching staff to get them slotted nicely into the team and we'll become a stronger side.

Fair enough Roy bought garbage - PFK(deary me) and Poulsen but he hardly had much £ to work did he? Joe Cole and Jova were freebies so overall our budget last summer was for **** all and with that in mind, and our squad at the time needing surjery, minus Mascherano, we were going nowhere fast.

Where's this 'guranteed' word come from? Who's said it would've been guaranteed? I think your mate implied that anyone who suggested a Kenny-led LFC from the start of the season might well have managed to get 4th was 'deluded'.

Of course nobody could have guaranteed anything, it's absurd to suggest guarantees exist. But we're not deluded for thinking that we might or would've been top 4 with Kenny from the off. Simply winning home games against Blackpool, Wolves and Sunderland was beyond Hodgson and doing so would have had us 4th now. I dont think it's deluded to think we'd have won those games under Kenny.
