      Valencia back-flip on Mata

Arsenal's hopes of landing young Spain international Juan Mata have taken a boost with Valencia now admitting they would be willing to accept an offer for the 23-year-old this summer.

Mata has been linked with a move to the Emirates since starring in the European Under-21 Championships, but talk of a Premier League switch was quashed by his current club 10 days ago when president Manuel Llorente explicitly claimed, "Juan Mata is not for sale".

However, the La Liga club, who cashed in on David Villa and David Silva last summer, now appear willing to back-flip on that stance should the right offer come for Mata.

"The possibility exists that Mata will leave the club," Valencia manager Unai Emery told Marca.

"We want him to stay and Mata has also expressed his desire to stay at Valencia, but at the same time we cannot stop a player who really wants to leave for money or for a bigger club. So, if there is a large financial offer from any club, that is good for both us and him, we will have to let him leave."

Tottenham and Liverpool are also believed to be interested in the winger, but Arsenal's potential to offer Champions League football next season is understood to put the Gunners as frontrunners for Mata's signature.

Arsenal's potential to be a **** club on a downward slide also seem to put them in in front of any club wishing to sign Mata.

top talent maybe going to a spineless team, what a waste.

He could end up there very easily. With Cesc most likely leaving they will have plenty of money to spend and will need a marquee type of signing to calm down their worried fans.

How he would fit in Wenger system and where they would play him that's a different matter but imo they are very strong possibility for Mata's next destination.

Would be great if we got him. Any chance of that happening?

I seriously doubt after Downing purchase.

LB definitely and CB hopefully are our priorities for the rest of the transfer window.

Mata not so much I'm afraid.

It looks like this summer's signings are about getting champions league qualification. Hopefully we'll sign guys like Mata next year.

I also think we have been looking to build a solid base to build on. Players like Mata are what you need to add when you have that. Two seasons ago it was he or David Silva were exactly the type of signing we needed - now we need to get a team shape and personality back first and foremost. Young flair players from a foreign league seem to me to be a bigger gamble in terms of that integration.

There are exceptions to the idea that players from foreign leagues would struggle in that regard but I've seen noone mention the sort of background or personal qualities that clearly set the likes of Alonso apart. Even players of great skill like Ronaldo have taken time to adapt and that was within a well established squad.

Who the **** do Sky think they are

I am not Juan Mata. I.... AM.... THE TALENT!!!

i agree with that but just a thought. the ginsoak sometimes buys players a year ahead of when he wants them if it looks like they might go elsewhere.

i wonder if should look to do the same. i suppose the point that they had the base to build on still stands though

I just think they are at a different stage in their team building. Two years ago if we had the money would have been the right time and hopefully next summer again. You can't buy expensive players for the long term before you have a good team in place for the next season.

Our long term buys and building have to be at the reserve/academy level at the minute I think. It appears we have been doing very well in that department.

Arsenal and Liverpool’s attempts to prise Juan Mata from Valencia look set to end in failure after club president Manuel Llorente claimed he will not be sold at any price.
The 23-year-old has been the subject of fierce speculation all summer as Arsene Wenger attempts to compensate for the potential blow of losing Samir Nasri or Cesc Fabregas and Kenny Dalglish tries to build a side capable of challenging for Champions League qualification.
But Llorente has issued a firm rebuffal, telling potential suitors that Mata will not go the same way as David Villa or David Silva in leaving Valencia for the highest bidder.
He told Superdeporte: "The decision is clear and money will not change our position. Valencia will not sell to any club that wants to buy Mata."
