I've just read Zapater say David Silva has limitations to his game and Mata is a much better player.
Think I need to go and have a lie down.
David Silva is world class, Mata has the potential that's all.
I'd be made up if we signed him but every thread doesn't need to turn into a wankfest over who can pretend to have watched him the most or jizz over what makes him a good player (not you Zappy baby)The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Better as a pure footballer, not necessarily more effective or a better player overall. Okay, do you would think that Silva's immense lack of any physical strength is a positive? That's basically what I was referring to along with some other things in his game which are questionable, but stating that his intelligence on the pitch allows him to produce despite that.Originally posted by The Birdman View PostI've just read Zapater say David Silva has limitations to his game and Mata is a much better player.

That added; Silva has done really well this season, but in the last few seasons when he's been effected by injury there have been a few extended spells where he didn't really produce which have been largely overlooked. This season he provided a lot of goals so it didn't matter that he doesn't score them but sometimes at Valencia he wasn't creating them or scoring them regularly enough to hold the world class tag. They're different kinds of players but it's worth noting that in Mata's breakthrough and second season he definitely trumped Silva.
Mata still can improve but to say he's just potential is a bit off, he is the first name on the team sheet at a CL club and always in and around the Spanish squad, he has pedigree in all of the youth teams as well. He only had one cameo appearance, but he wasn't in the world cup winning squad for nothing.

david silva has a sharpness and crispness to his game that mata doesnt. david silva is the finished article whereas mata has yet to develop his talents fully.
for me theres no doubt that silva is the better of the two. its just a real shame that rafa never bought him when he had the chance because he is a quality player of the highest order.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Rafa had the 'chance' to buy David Silva, first i've heard of that, i know Rafa wanted him...tried to get the club to sign him, but "had the chance" ? I'm not sure about that.Originally posted by el matador View Posti agree with birdman.

There's definitely similarities between Silva and Mata.
- Mata is less selfish imo, and releases the ball quicker. More of a team player.
Silva is arguably the better in terms of the final pass.
As i've said before on here, i think Silva is helped massively by his team-mates behind him...De Jong and Barry allow him to attack and not worry about tracking back at all.
De Jong is class btw, used to think he was pretty average.

I don't get this logic, what is this based on? Young is a proven Premiership player who for the past 4-5 seasons, has been consistent in both assists and goals and on international duty recently has looked one of England best players.Originally posted by Arn View Post
Mata or Young? Mata every day of the week. Young isn't half the player Mata is.
£20m for him would be a steal.
Mata has performed well in La Liga; however, 20 million in my opinion be a gamble rather than a steal. Go back a few years and the same things were being posted about Joaquin, Vicente, Quaresma, Reyes, etc.
