I think spending 60million in January along with Henderson and others to come shows we mean business and hopefully Mata will see that to.

I think maybe need to sign Mata to show a signal of intent, but then depends who else they bring in......If i were Mata all the signs are pointing to we mean business, we just dont have CL and not in London, if he is that way inclined. Think its 90% Fabregas is going and sure he will have told Mata the situation with Nasri and Clichy to...Where as anything he hears from Reina will be positive.

Just give him a DVD of Kenny and ask him if he wants to learn a trick or two from an old master. should do the trick.

We didnt spend £60m in January though. Spending discussions during Rafa's time were all done in net spend, and that's the most accurate way to do it, so i dont see why that should change.

According to reports in Spain Juan Mata looks set to be the next big signing to arrive at Anfield as Liverpool switch their sights to the wings after completing the signing of Midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The 23 year old Spaniard has spent the last four seasons with Valencia after arriving at the Mestalla Stadium from the Real Madrid B team however he has long been linked with a move to Liverpool firstly under Rafa Benitez and now under Kenny Dalglish.

Mata would add some genuine creativity to the wing, something that has been missing at Anfield for a long time, and last season scored 8 goals and created 12 as Valencia claimed 3rd spot in Spain despite selling David Silva and David Villa.

Mata is rated around the 20 million mark and given that Liverpool appears to have a sizeable transfer budget this summer, a move could be on the cards.

Mata is currently on duty with the Spanish under 21 side at the UEFA under-21 European Championship, where he is tipped to one of the stars of the show.

This story has been reproduced from today's media. It does definitely represent the position of Liverpool Football Club.

                you missed the edit

do you not think we are in for him then? must admit watching him in those euros he did seem to pick up a lot of postions that Suarez does at the moment.

Thing about the Arse is that they will be reluctant to cough up big money for either a fee or wages IMO.

I dont personally think we're in for him, no.

And that article from LFC.tv doesnt mean anything, it's just reporting what's been said in the media and, as it states, doesnt reflect the position or viewpoint of LFC.

With our new set up I am sure if we really were after Mata we would have signed him before the U21 tourno. Surely we wouldn't be after him on the back of that alone.

It just all seems too much Rick Parryish to me.
Or, Mata said he doesn't want to be thinking about summer moves during the U21 tournament and will delay talks until it's over with.

Or, Valencia decided the U21 tournament was a platform to Market Mata and refused point blank to discuss a transfer fee until the tournament was over and (hopefully) there would be more suitors, therefore hiking the price up.

Or, we're not interested and his agent is leaking rumours to the media to drum up his dream move to [insert Mata's dream club].

Having a fellow Spanish international at the club definaltely ticks a few more boxes for LFC, particularly someone like Reina who's one of the ring leaders when it comes to fooling around and partying! Definaltely not the reserved type.

If Fabregas goes (which looks increasingley likely), not only does it leave no Spaniards at the club - but also gets rid of they're best player and captain. Not exactly an attractive proposition for a young Spanish international.

Being an optimist I agree with this.

If we can convince Suarez to join us then we can get almost anybody - we're Liverpool FC!

They would still have Almunia but I don't know if Mata knows him as he hasn't had much involvement with the national side. You would imagine Fabregas and Reina would be friends with him which would help and could sway his decision, obviously if Fabregas wants out he's not going to put as convincing an argeument across as someone committed to the cause.
