I'm not sure Citeh... Chavski or Scum have finished spending yet either, not at all, with players like Modric, Nasri, Hazard, Snidjer among the possibles, and probably a few more candidates lined up too.

          Sunday August 21 2011
Valencia announced on Sunday night that they had reached "an agreement in principle" with Chelsea for the sale of Juan Mata to the west London club.

The Spanish club did not disclose the fee for the 23-year-old and also added the transfer was subject to the player passing the relevant medical tests.

New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has identified a lack of creativity in midfield as one area which requires improvement before the transfer window closes and will no doubt hope the Spain international can provide some nous to an ageing squad.

A statement on the Valencia website read: "Valencia Football Club has reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea FC for the transfer of the player Juan Manuel Mata. The agreement is subject to the relevant medical tests."

Chelsea are not the only English club reported to have shown an interest in Mata with north London rivals Arsenal and Spurs linked with a player who has flourished at the Mestalla after failing to make the breakthrough at Real Madrid.

Mata joined Valencia from Madrid in 2007 and has emerged as one of their most important players, his form earning him a regular place in the Spain squad.

He was a part of the party which won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and was also a key man this summer as Spain won the Under-21 European Championship in Denmark.
That rug really tied the room together.

Mata is genuine class and in the fullness of time will do as well as Silva is doing now.
He has the potential to be better than Silva, who by the way had another good game vs Bolton today.

Sadly none of them will ever wear LFC shirt.

I dunno why people are so depressed - i was shouted down when i said we should have signed Mata instead of Downing. We've got Downing folks. So what's the problem?

So that's Aguero and Mata down, now Hazard just needs to sign for Arsenal and I can really visualize certain of our posters' heads exploding
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                            Mine angry and defrauded young?

I've no problem with Downing, he is a good player. Mata will be a special player though, in the Silva bracket as shaggy says.

But meh, what can you do?
