I dunno why people are so depressed - i was shouted down when i said we should have signed Mata instead of Downing. We've got Downing folks. So what's the problem?

Because you had the foresight and knew really well that Chavs just signed a player that could be potentially world class in next little while

I've no problem with Downing, he is a good player. Mata will be a special player though, in the Silva bracket as shaggy says.

But meh, what can you do?

Players can only be as good as their coaching and management so let's hope that Mata shines about as well as Torres then asks for a move to Liverpool!

In the mean time we need to get 3rd place (automatic CL qualification) to allow us to sign players immediately.

Had a read of that people paper before I came home and it says that cuntface torres was bombarding Mata with txt msgs begging him to come.
Also had a bit about niang? Us and spurs want him . 10mil rated striker. Zidane has his eye on him and and they will make a move.

I really wanted us to get Silva a couple of years ago, then he went to City. Then I wanted Mata, now it looks like he's off to Chelski. Very disappointing especially considering he's younger than Downing (and will be better imo) & would've cost the same money as Downing before 1 Aug...

I was thinking about all the signings made, and i think all of the 'most wanted' players out there that have been mentioned in dispatches over the last year or so as being the next big thing, well......nearly all of them have now been signed, , Lukaku, Aguero, Mata, Sanchez, etc etc

Everyone said the same about Silva.

Mata is genuine class and in the fullness of time will do as well as Silva is doing now.

I think it's a mental thing and is pretty difficult to judge before a player experiences the PL how they will do. Certainly I would have thought Luis Garcia or Benayoun less likely to succeed than Morientes but that would have been completely wrong.

Why is everyone talking as if we could have had him if we'd wanted? No-one knows the facts so why are certain people so devastated? Maybe Comolli was told very early on that there was no possibility of signig Mata. His father was IIRC was quite vocal about signing for a CL club. Maybe the journos like Evans knew this all along. Could be worse he could have signed for Arsenal who we've got to remove from the top 4.
