It was never damgerous though, it was cynical and petulant but was never going to injure anyone. He was sent off for it, a 1 or possibly 2 game ban is more than enough.

It was cynical and petulant like you said which makes it all the more stupid, he can only blame himself for leaving himself in the position where a 3 game ban could be given which it has.

I don't think it was cynical - that makes it sound planned. He'd already been banned for one game in the qualifying competition. I'm a bit surprised it wasn't two but one was never enough.

I was quite impressed by how he reacted at the time. It's too little of course but he's clearly learned something which is worth remembering next time someone is accused of being too stupid to change or whatever. Now he needs to learn not to kick out petulantly like that in the first place.
        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

it was cynical as in he didn't need to do it but more petulant I'll agree with you there.

If it stays as a 3 game ban I really don't think he should be part of the tournament & I'd say that if it was Gerrard banned for 3 games as well.

Isn't that the type of thing said to 5 year olds when they're learning the game?
            Hello mert.

We all know that in the past Rooney would have got all sweary and petulant with the referee as well. He might be slow to learn but he is learning.

Well, seeing as he would not get a game, it would be pretty pointless. However, the media will decide that he has to go.

Isn't this exactly what he should have learnt? Surely he didn't need to learn that if you do kick someone then try to respond positively and then once this has been achieved you can then learn to not kick in the first place.

The guy deserves a 3 game ban for the stupidity of his actions alone. He didn't just ruin his personal goals but also did huge damage to his team mates and everyone that pays to watch and follow England.

Who really cares about the ugly bluenose manc, or England for that matter?

                    Anyone?
                    Oh I don't know.

Of course. But heat of the moment and all that.

The 'moment' didn't last as long as it would have done before. In the past he would have harangued the ref, had to have been restrained by teammates, sworn at the cameras and gone down the tunnel flicking V-signs at water bottles and kicking stewards. This time he lost it, lashed out and then calmed down.

In future he may be able to control his temper before lashing out rather than just afterwards.

If they banned players for stupidity then there wouldn't be many games on this weekend.

If they banned us for stupidity, this forum would be very quiet indeed.

Are you suggesting that's the reason for Darkon's executive action this morning?
