Newcastle forward Nile Ranger has launched an astonishing attack on the club's fans via Twitter.

The 21-year-old risked the ire of supporters following the Magpies' 2-1 home defeat to Premier League strugglers Reading on Saturday.

The striker argued that Newcastle did not have to buy season tickets or pay the players' wages.

Ranger wrote: "Certain fans need to not come and support this team... Coming out to BOOO us.. Stay at home.. Don't need ur BOO's.... SAY NO MORE !!!!

"To all the fans. U are not forced to buy season tickets.. Or pay our wages.. Please remember that.

"If u are loyal fans.. Be with us.. When we are out there on the field.. Be the 12th man.. Don't come and BOO.. That aint going to help any1.

"Team is going through rough patch.. Last thing we need is fans against us.

"We are a TEAM u BOO 1 player... Ur booing all of us !!!"

The remarks sparked an angry response from Toon fans and could see Ranger disciplined by Newcastle boss Alan Pardew.

When i hear a player say to fans...'You are not forced to buy tickets....you don't have to come' etc. it makes me cringe a little, while his statement may be factually true, it just shows a total lack of understanding of what a football fan is all about.

Factually he's right, but emotionally, football fan wise i don't think it's that simple as to say..'hey ho we are **** i'm off, i give up on watching my team and i'm staying home'. imo it's a fine line as to which the better fan is, the one that does what Nile says and stays away to save their money, or the one that keeps paying and turning up but boo's when the side are ****e, or an owner is playing football manager with their club.

I disagree totally. Fans do pay their wages and are entitled to give them **** if they constantly under perform unless they play for us of course. I would never boo a Liverpool player but Newcastle FFS, they deserve it.

he's right that paying to go in and act like a bunch of miserable dickheads isn't really helping the starting 11 much. i'm sure there are people who couldn't get in that would be happy to be there.

One thing is for certain.....it sounds like Nile (nice name by the way) is willing to go without his wages as long as the ****e they produce is continuing.
Remember, they are a TEAM, if one player decides not to collect the wages paid for by the fans (at least to some degree)...then all of them are in the same boat.
That's if Nile's reasoning holds up (or at least one expressed in proper English).

Look forward to hearing about the squad not collecting their wages for the next while.
