No one know who gave them the £220m. The rumour out there is that Qatar did it but as I said, no one know.

All we know is that Glazer suddenly found £220m. Money they didn't had but suddenly had.

That's great Arn, but the PIK payoff took their down down a bit, though it's still over half a billion quid. And paying off the PIK was still done using actual money.

Where's it coming from? And speculative one word answers like 'qatar' dont mean anything without context.

Explain to me why Qatar would just 'give' them a quarter of a billion quid.

If you want my take on it then they got the £220m from Qatar to guarantee that they won't sell the club to someone else. No agreement to buy the club just that they won't sell to someone else.

They could by that way maybe even get it on the cheap if Glazer get big financial problems.

They need a big club to market the 2022 World Cup.

Just assuming all of that is correct - and they're willing to pay £220m or so, just to market the 2022 world cup and they need a big club to do that - why didnt they just buy us then, for around the same amount? They would have OWNED a massive club, paid around the same as the £220m and marketed the WC perfectly.

                So why not?

Its not like the glazers are poor. They just reinvested some of their own cash back into utd.

Qatar Foundation 125m to Barca 5 years deal
Qatar give 220m to Utd to buy Utd
                  QIA buy 70% of PSG

                  Conflict of interest. no?

Because Man U already have a big stadium. They are one of the three really massive big clubs out there, Barcelona and Real Madrid being the other two.

Then you also would have to think about the UEFA financial fair play rules. They won't be able to cover for example a £100m loss, you are not allowed to do that. That means that it is far from guaranteed that buying us and spend what they are allowed to spend, say £50m a year net, will take us back to the top.

Buying Man U isn't a gamble. They can keep them at the top by spending say £100m a year net. That is the kind of profits they will make if they buy the club and pay off the debt.

Let's be honest mate, if the Qatar lot are THAT ****ing minted, that they'd pay £220m just to stop MUFC being sold (and we know they ARE that minted), why would an extra £300m or so for a new LFC stadium bother them?

And stadium costs arent included in the FFP rules either. So they could have bought us, built the stadium and taken us to the top - best way to market the 2022 world cup.

They could have done it but it would have been a gamble. Buying one of the big three sends out a clear message that they can buy whatever they want.

Buying us would be a nice project and could maybe take us back to the top.

Did that article not also state that United had £100m in 'cash reserve' - pretty much in teh range of what they are spending now.

God knows what is happening with the PIK loans - for all we know they may just have found a bank willing to loan them the cash as they have seen the growth in revenue streams.
