Newcastle United's Steven Taylor has apologised for making a racist tweet involving three of his teammates.

His message had been in response to a tweet posted by another teammate - Massadio Haidara - who joked about Taylor's attempt to learn French.

The 27-year-old Greenwich-born defender replied with a tweet that included photographs of Moussa Sissoko, Papiss Cisse and Vurnon Anita, which appeared to highlight black stereotypes plus a message from Taylor which said: "It's always good to see you guys smiling."

Although Haidara described Taylor's tweet as "banter," it angered a number of people.

Taylor, who stressed that his original tweet was meant to be taken as a joke, later sent another message saying: "Apologies if my tweet offended anybody."

He could still face disciplinary action from his club and the Football Association.

Oh - ive no doubt he's probably interested but there isn't a manager in the world who won't be. Just can't see that deal being offered at all.

Alternatively, he could have been looking at; Courtois, Hazard, De Brunye and Lukaku.
