The Most Expensive Squads in England

Adjusted for players purchased before Ronaldo's transfer to Real Madrid, where their purchase price is in today's money & relative to the current transfer record, not the record at the time of purchase:

    1.) Chavski - 439 million pounds
    2.) Man City - 429 million pounds
    3.) Manure - 381 million pounds
    4.) Spurs - 343 million pounds
    5.) Villa - 193 million pounds
    6.) Arsenal - 167 million pounds
    7.) LFC - 158 million pounds

I did these calculations to show a stupid Manc supporting mate that trying to compare us to them is just ****ing retarded!
For players purchased before June 2009, I divided their purchase price by the transfer record at that point (Zidane's 47 million pounds to Real Madrid in 2001) & then multiplied that by the current transfer record (Ronaldo's 80 million pound transfer to Real).
And obviously any player purchased during June 2009 or later, their value is the actual amount paid.
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

Your measure of inflation can be seen debatable.

Shouldn't you find the average transfer fee paid each year and develop your index from there?

I agree that using RPI / CPI or whatever is irrelevant, as it just does not apply to football.
    Oh I don't know.

Its a good measure. But If this is about Value of the Squad you have to include players like Gerrard and Carra, and Terry at Chelsea ect.

If its based on money spent then its correct.
      *Except Michael, who died.

It's not a good measure of the world record didn't change for 8 years.

Are you saying that values in that time should not be revalued?
        Oh I don't know.

Well what else could u measure the costs then? If Real paid 60 million for Ronaldo instead of 80 million u don't think it would have had an adverse effect on all transfers after that??

I'm saying that you can't use the record transfer as a barometer. Inflation is not measured solely by the increase in prices at Harrods or Fortnum & Mason. It's measured by monitoring the price of everyday goods.

Also, your index applies the same increase to a transfer made in 2004 to that made in 2008.

As I mentioned earlier, a better measure would be to take the average transfer fee each season as a starting point.

Deloitte & Touche probably have such an index.
            Oh I don't know.
