    Bradford City fire disaster

Technically it's now May 12th, but didnt see a thread on this. It was 26 years ago and still to this day, i cant get over the footage which i've seen numerous times. Shocking stuff, the speed at which the fire grows and spreads

RIP to the Bradford 56. Terrible tragedy.

Some of this footage isnt entirely easy to watch.

I posted something in the general twitter thread, but will repeat here. Genuinely mortified at the video, I'd forgotten just how terrible it was. RIP to the 56.

Yeah it reminds you of how much football has changed at the top end and even at the lower end of the leagues. We moan about health and safety regulations and suffocating red tape etc and how much we have to pay. But when you look at stadiums like that you realise how unsafe they were and how poorly football fans were treated.

        Horrific footage

I’m old enough to remember the Bradford fire. Final day of the season and as Bradford were involved in a promotion struggle the cameras on BBC’s Grandstand kept going around the grounds. They cut to Bradford were suddenly the cameras turn on the stand. Live on air the commentator started laughing in a Jeremy Clarkson way about people jumping up and down on some lit newspapers. Then the bloody thing erupted. Needless to say the original commentary was quickly buried. Horrific event and just crazy they way supporters tolerated lethal conditions at football grounds.

              RIP
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'd never seen that footage before. Awful - how it spreads so quickly is unreal.

                RIP.

As already mentioned, most likely a discarded cigarette.

Most victims were trapped in the tunnel underneath the stand, where they found that the doors were locked.

Why the **** did it get locked? I hope this isn't like Hillsborough where it seemed like many lifes could have been saved bar incompetence.

That was in the old days of wooden stands, as mentioned it was probably started via a discarded cigarette end (not maliciously - underneath the seats litter had built up, the cigarette end ignited the mess), the wooden stand caught fire as shown in the footage very quickly.

                              RIP 56
