Thanjk you.

It ain't the temperature he needs to worry about, it's the constant ****ing gloom that surrounds the place. He'll be dreaming of sunnier climes within 6 months, away days in London will be welcome respite
So what if the difference between Carroll and Suarez is something like £30m over five years.
Carroll will probably never be worth £35m but Aguero will easily be worth £40m in five years time IMO.
Aguero will make it easier for City to sign the top class players. They will earn a lot of cash off the pitch thanks to Aguero.
Aguero is easily worth £30m more over five years than Carroll if you look at the whole picture on and off the pitch.
He earned £260k a week at Atletico so he isn't getting more than that now. If you count in the difference in taxes then he will earn less than he did at Atletico. So money isn't the main motive to the move.
If we are looking at one player in isolation that argument makes sense. However we cannot afford to look at one player in isolation and pay him Man City like wages whereas the rest are on more normal wages. It is just not sustainable.
I dont think Aguero will be willing to take a wage cut to normal LFC level. I maybe wrong here but I dont think we have ever offered more than 100K per week of wages to any new signing.
I dont think it will do good for the team morale to have one player earn twice more than everyone bar Gerrard. Renegotiating the contracts for Pepe, Suarez will become extremely tricky as they will demand ( and rightfully so) parity with Aguero's wages.

If he has as good season as we all expect it would only be fair.
Exactly. If a player's performances are world class, then why shouldnt he be paid as much as anyone else is getting, or the going rate for a world class player?

I dont think the wages City are paying is the going rate for a world class player mate. Atletico are in financial trouble due to that. I dont think it will be feasible for us to currently offer City level wages for all our top players. Once we have a new stadium (or Anfield with improved capacity) and our commercial side operations fully ramped up to exploit our world wide appeal and stature, it might be whole new deal.

Granted but if you have a world class footballer on your books you will need to make sure that the performance on the pitch is properly rewarded or you'll risk the chance of losing him.
Surely if we want to keep Suarez long term will need to eventually restructure his wage contract to put him at par with players of his caliber.
If we don't we'll have little or no chance to maintain his service once the Spanish clubs start calling.

But I see us (the club) as trying to shift the power balance slightly by only signing players who truly want to play for the shirt, then money becomes less of an issue or bargaining tool, or at least not the main reason for a player signing or staying. Looking after the clubs interests first I suppose - it is obv easier from a position of strength though (ie in the champs league)
I agree with your general sentiments but the truth is honestly we cannot pay the going rate which has been extremely artificially inflated by City and soon Malaga, PSG, Getafe are about to enter the mix. It is just not sustainable in the long run. I don't think even the Mancs pay their top players City wages. Even Roman is feeling the pinch. He signed lot of players on inflated wages ( compared to prevailing wages in 2003/2004) and realized that it was not sustainable. They had a huge clearing out over the last 3 years.
Already 2 clubs have applied for administration and there is a danger fo 5 more applying.
I hope the UEFA implements the FFP rule stringently. It is crucial for the survival of this game.
The only solution available to us is what wiw has mentioned earlier in this post. Develop a top class academy in the league of Barcelona and Ajax so that players want to come to us to develop. Offer the top class players good money in wages, wages which will set them up for the rest of their lives. Get our marketing on the level of Mancs and Madrid. And market the aura, provide a platform where you can tell the players, if you join Liverpool your profile will be taken to the next level. You have the opportunity to be the next legend of the game. Every goal he scores, will be simultaneously watched by millions in Asia, Aus , Europe, and the Americas.
I honestly think we don't need City level resources and wages to compete at the top level. We really don't. For the first time in two decades, we are getting our act together and pulling together as one. Continue doing that and we will compete and we will attract world class players.
